Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
Beer Blast: The Inside Story of the Brewing Industry's Bizarre Battles for Your Money. A third-generation beer exec Philip Van Munching has quit the biz, but he takes a look back and delivers an inside account of the great beer wars of the past few decades. From the disaster of the first "lite" beer (Gablinger's, which tasted "god-awful ... so metallic it would set your teeth on edge"), to the later marketing triumphs (and occasional embarrassments) that mark today's brewing industry, Van Munching tells the story with great detail and mostly good humor. How the brewers, the ad agencies, TV networks, and retailers all work to deliver the suds in your mug turns out to be an engaging and frequently funny story.

The rise and fall of beer trends--from sports sponsorships to low-cals, and status-conscious imports to creatively crafted microbrews--mirror, in many ways, the larger culture that embraces them. Philip Van Munching offers a clever and knowing look at its ups and downs in the industry.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Great book, BUT...   December 24, 2001

Yes, this is a great book, but this audio tape is NOT of the unabridged version of the book, therefore in my opinion this is NOT an unabridged audio tape. I ordered this book based on the description, thinking it was truly the ENTIRE book but sent it back when I found out it was an abridged version of the book.

5 out of 5 stars A very entertaining look at the beer wars   June 27, 2000

I enjoyed the audio version of the book so much that I find myself drawn back to it every time I go to the place I rent my audio books. This book, along with the Emperors of Chocolate, has become one of my favorite books about the triumphs and follies of business. The opportunity to take a peek behind the scenes made the experience fascinating. van Munching does an excellent job with his own narration and moves things along at a good pace. He speaks reverently of his father and grandfather and the company they built, and with equal disdain of what he left behind. All in all, one of the most satisfying listening experiences I've had.
