Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
As a scene-scoping, style-setting, modern magazine, Food & Wine always keeps tabs on the trendiest nightlife. These 150 cocktails are the ones making a sensation in the hippest eateries and bars throughout the nation, the drinks bartenders get asked for again and again. And mix-masters won’t find better recipes for traditional favorites. Each chapter focuses on a particular spirit type, and every page highlights one or two special cocktails, along with a description of the establishment that provided the recipe and behind-the-scenes anecdotes. A “Cocktail Clinic” offers tips on stocking the bar with essential glassware and tools, as well as a list of the country’s best resources for bar staples, and an index in the back has the names, addresses and phone numbers of the top clubs showcased. That adds up to a comprehensive nightlife guide to major cities nationwide. Plus, there’s lots of exciting new material, including a whole chapter on the finest, most classic cocktails; a directory of the best liquor stores in the country, so readers can source all the ingredients for these amazing drinks; an expanded spirits lexicon; and even more delicious bar food recipes!

5 out of 5 stars Latest & Greatest in Cocktails   August 26, 2008
This is a great resource for trendy, often exotic, cocktail recipes.

So far I've whipped up the "Au Provence" and "Hibiscus Petal," and both met expectations (which were high). I especially love the use of exotic and unusual herbs and such: thai basil, fresh tarragon, dried hibiscus flowers. Very inventive.

Also includes recipes for some classic cocktails, a section on appetizers ("Bar Food") and other useful info.

Very happy with this collection.

4 out of 5 stars great recipes, not so great index   July 7, 2008

This book is great for those looking to expand their repetoire broader than gin and tonics and margaritas. one major fault with this edition (2008; i don't know how other year's editions are set up) is that there is no proper index in the back. sure, the book is divided up by major liquor sections (i.e. gin, tequila, vodka, etc) BUT! if you pick up a bottle of, say, st. germaine elderflower liquor, and you want to know all the different drinks you can make with it, you're out of luck, unless you want to page through the entire book to find which recipes use st germaine.

5 out of 5 stars Cutting Edge Cocktails   June 30, 2008
If you like to be on the cutting edge of things like I do, you will appreciate this book. Lots of interesting cocktail facts and wonderful recipes. Just a great book.

4 out of 5 stars a bit more complex than the the last few years   June 9, 2008
I love this series, but this year's edition had many complex drinks with obscure ingredients... Nonetheless it's worth having - this one has "the basics" so it's a good reference, and the recipes for bar snacks look great. I recommend 2005, 2006 and 2007.
