A more accessible and less heavy-handed movie than Ang Lee's 2003 HulkLouis Leterrier's The Incredible Hulk is a purely popcorn love affair with Marvel's raging, green superhero, as well as the old television series starring Bill Bixby as Dr. David Banner and Lou Ferrigno as the beast within him. Edward Norton takes up where Eric Bana left off in Lee's version, playing Bruce (that's the character's original name) Banner, a haunted scientist always on the move. Trying to eliminate the effects of a military experiment that turns him into the Hulk whenever his emotions get the better of him, Banner is hiding out in Brazil at the film's beginning. Working in a bottling plant and communicating via email with an unidentified professor who thinks he can help, Banner goes postal when General Thaddeus "Thunderbolt" Ross and a small army turn up to grab him. Intent on developing whatever causes Banner's metamorphoses into a weapon, Ross brings along a quietly deranged soldier named Emil Blonsky (Tim Roth), who wants Ross to turn him into a supersoldier who can take on the Hulk. The adventure spreads to the U.S., where Banner hooks up with his old lover (and Ross' daughter), Betty (Liv Tyler), and where the Hulk takes on several armed assaults, including one in a pretty unusual location: a college campus. The film's action is impressive, though the computer-generated creature is disappointingly cartoonish, and a second monster turning up late in the movie looks even cheesier. Norton is largely wasted in the film--he's essentially a bridge between sequences where he disappears and the Hulk rampages around. As good an actor as he is, Norton doesn't have the charisma here to carry those scenes in which one waits impatiently for the real show to begin. --Tom Keogh

5 out of 5 stars Incredible... Marvel's done it again.   November 23, 2008
First came Iron Man. We all knew that would be great based on the many trailers and all the news and hype surrounding it. But Marvel wasn't saying anything about The Incredible Hulk and we didn't get any trailers until just before it came out, so understandably people were worried. Especially after Ang Lee's Hulk in 2003. But thankfully Marvel proved to those that were doubtful that they needn't be and they are now 2 for 2 when they have complete control over their movies. Incredible Hulk was everything Ang Lee's movie should have been. Not only did the movie pay respects to the comics but to the TV series as well. Norton was great as Bruce Banner and was much improved over Eric Bana. The Hulk also looked notably better than he did in Ang Lee's film, a little less cartoonish and tougher like we'd imagine him. The story was much better in this one and there were many references to S.H.I.E.L.D., Stark Industries, Iron Man, Captain America, and the Avengers. Also there were small parts for the soon to be Doc Sampson and The Leader which should set up Incredible Hulk 2 nicely. There are many bonus features including cool deleted scenes and an alternate opening which was cool and as you all know has the faint image of Captain America's body in the ice. It looks amazing on blu-ray and is a must have for superhero fans or fans or Edward Norton.

5 out of 5 stars Brilliant Just Brilliant GET IT!   November 22, 2008

This film has everything from great action, romance and acting. Edward Norton is great as Bruce Banner and you feel for his loneliness the same as you would have years ago with TV show version. Tim Roth is also very good as the Baddy who just cant get enough power and ultimately wants even more then the hulk himself. Loved the idea of abomination being even more brute then the hulk. Really hope they make a 2nd one before Avengers comes out. If you want a decent Blu-Ray then here it is get it! I have absolutely no complaints with this Blu-Ray and the fact its 2 Discs is even better.

4 out of 5 stars The Incredible Hulk is only credible..   November 22, 2008

"The Incredible Hulk" is a romp in a Marvel Comics translation into film, but lacks the depth of Iron Man (Two-Disc Special Collectors' Edition) or The Dark Knight (Two-Disc Special Edition + Digital Copy). What could have been absolutely astonishing becomes only credible viewing enjoyment, a great popcorn movie, as other reviewers have described it.

Edward Norton is fine as the scientist Bruce Banner, but not outstanding. He does a credible job with the script as presented, but motive is lacking, a foundation for the story. The film--its writers, director--assumes viewer knowledge of the Marvel story, but a great film would fold the viewer into the story by providing missing background. We know what the Colonel wants but not why Banner was participating.

So the film ends up being superficial--all show and no depth. I want to know more about Tim Roth's character, what motivates him. The film certainly gives nod to the stereotype of the military seeking troop enhancement at all costs. Are they all like that? As for William Hurt as the Colonel, he went beyond his usual acting portrayals to give us at least a thoughtful "villain" rather than his usual bullish portraits. I thought this character was the highlight of the film.

And moon-struck Betty? How did these two get together? I have to assume that Betty and Banner worked together, but how? Showing her wearing a lab coat cannot take the place of some kind of explanation. What is their connection? I know that a film cannot be all-inclusive but some are. Iron Man (Single-Disc Edition) did just that! Now there's a five-star film!

"Incredible Hulk" is certainly a well-made film--the cinematography is awesome!--but it takes more than film editing and CGI to make an incredible movie. Although I enjoyed the movie, I finished wanting just a little more. However, the final scene is something to cheer about! May it happen!

For some reason my product didn't arrive yet after more than 30 days from my original order.
Amazon's people asked me to wait until December 1st and then if nothing happens they promised to resend other product.

Enjoyed this movie. Liked story line and characters better than first Hulk. Found Ed Norton played a very sympathetic character.
