Amazon.com Review
When the aroma of freshly brewed coffee--from freshly ground beans--wafts into your bedroom in the morning, you won't need your alarm clock. Preset this coffeemaker for your desired wake-up time, add coffee beans to the grinder, and in the morning the beans are ground to a medium grind and hot coffee awaits in the 10-cup stainless steel, double-wall insulated thermal carafe. You can also program the machine to start brewing at the end of a dinner party to avoid having to get up from the table, or to have hot coffee waiting after a brisk winter walk. When making fewer than five cups of coffee, use the 1-to-4-cups setting to improve extraction and heat; coffeemakers without this setting often lack the time to heat up properly, and coffee comes out cooler. A disposable charcoal filter removes chlorine and odors from tap water, improving coffee flavor, and should be changed every few months. Other features include a gold-tone commercial-style filter (or use No. 4 basket-style paper filters); capacity to use preground coffee instead of beans; 30-second Brew Pause, which allows a cup be poured before brewing is complete; and an audible tone to indicate the pot is ready. The grinder removes for easy cleaning, and all removable parts can be washed safely in the upper rack of a dishwasher. The Cuisinart Grind and Brew measures 15 by 8 by 7-1/2 inches, and comes with a three-year warranty. --Ann Bieri

1 out of 5 stars Sexy Design, Poor Product   July 25, 2008
We've had our Grind and Brew for four years now- and we wonder why we still put up with this thing. Perhaps it's because of it's sleek brushed chrome design... it looks good with our other stainless steel appliances and dark granite counter tops. That would be the one star right there: eye-candy value.

Here are my problems:

*The well where you fill the water in is dark and deep- I need an overhead light to see inside the dark chasm.

*Cleaning and drying this baby is a pain. For those of us who love fresh ground coffee, consider it a labor of love. But it gets old, QUICK. I got into a routine to help me out on this: after I pour my cup of coffee, I disassemble the unit and put all the stuff right in the sink or dishwasher, wash it and let it dry. This becomes a real problem when you have guests and need to brew another pot right away. Good luck with that one.

*My unit stopped making 'hot' coffee after about a year. I get lukewarm brew now, so when I add cream, my cup of coffee is COLD. So, to add to my cleaning chores, I now have to pre-warm my cream so that my coffee is an acceptable temp. Oy vey.

*The grinder stopped consistently grinding coffee. Chunks, rather than grounds = weak coffee. Yum, swill.

*I cannot make a full pot of coffee. For some reason, the unit overflows and I get 12 cups of coffee and grinds all over my counter tops and floor. This is great fun when I'm brewing coffee for dinner guests. It's happened: thrice. Solution? I now have to brew 10 cups (really now, it's not 10 cups no matter how you pour it), clean and dry the unit, and then brew 10 more. Quite a huge undertaking when you really just want to sit and chat with your guests.

Fresh ground coffee is wonderful, but I just don't feel that this machine is living up to the dream.

1 out of 5 stars do not waste your money and time   July 22, 2008
Purchased this machine thinking it would be great as are all my other Cuisinart machines. NOT!!! A mess to clean up after EVERY use, grounds back up into grinder, coffee does not stay hot, and Cuisinart offers to send you a new one, (not the one without the grinder, which is great and cheaper) and expects you to pay $10. shipping and handling both ways. Nice huh? They did tell me how to soak the parts in detergent each time I use it to keep the coffee oils from jamming the grinder in its place and to use a Q-tip to clean around the stem. PLEASE! Cuisinart is clearly aware of the problems of this machine but they keep on selling them. Does not mean you have to fall for it though. I'll not use the grinder again. Amazon should consider removing it from their list as well.

2 out of 5 stars Take Cover...its going to blow!   July 22, 2008
I had such high hopes when we bought this coffee maker. I love the smell of freshly ground coffee that goes straight from the grinder to the coffee maker and then in my cup. But little did I know that it would take what seems like an eternity to get this little beauty prepared each morning to actually brew a cup of coffee. Just when you think you have all of the little parts cleaned and ready to go...you find more left over coffee grind mess strewn throughout the machine itself. Nor did I figure that the grinding area itself would have this oily leftover mush in it each and every time you use it.

It is awful. Little did we also know that when you hit the little harmless looking button that says "grind," that we would be running for cover from what sounds like an incoming missile that I am convinced still that my neighbors (one acre over) can hear every morning! I usually press it and run!

But hey...I guess some like to be woke up every morning by such a horrendous sound coming from the kitchen.

4 out of 5 stars Had for two years and still works great!   July 15, 2008
My husband and I got this item from our wedding registry and we really enjoy it. We have had absolutely no problems with the coffee maker at all, and it makes a great cup whether you use the grind feature or not. I agree that it is a little annoying to clean, but so is a seperate coffee grinder. So, it is the same amount of cleaning either way. I have not had any problems with grounds coming out in the cup of coffee. If this happens I would suggest making sure you are using an appropriate filter. If the one that is included is not catching the grounds you can switch it out for a paper filter to see if that works. My sister also has this same model and she did have an issue with the grinder getting stuck. She called cuisenart and told them the issue and they immediately sent her a brand new coffee maker without even having her send hers back. So now she has TWO! I would reccommend this item.

4 out of 5 stars A good cuppajoe   July 14, 2008
The most important aspect of a coffee pot is the end product, and in this the Cuisinart Grind and Brew excels. The coffee it produces is outstanding -- on par with any drip you might get from a specialty store. The metal-clad carafe will keep the brew hot for several hours without the need for a warming plate.

The machine has a steam problem when it comes to the grinder, which causes build up of "coffee muck" to accumulate in the grinder, the cup, the feeder, and on top of the drip guard. These rinse out quickly if you remove and rinse right after the coffee is brewed, taking only about thirty seconds to complete the job.

I've owned several different kinds of coffee makers, and this one produces the best tasting coffee so far. I'd prefer it if the lid was a little more sturdy-feeling, and they really should do something with that steam back up into the grinder. Those are the only things keeping me from giving this a five star rating.
