Editorial Reviews:

Amazon.com Review
For spreading olive oil evenly on bruschetta, focaccia, and grilled or roasted vegetables, and for spraying muffin and cake pans with vegetable oil, this dispenser is a nifty tool. A plastic cap underneath the sprayer's top twists off so the sprayer can be half-filled (1/3 cup) with oil. Inside the top is a plastic tube that fits over the spray nozzle. Push the top up and down to pump air pressure into the canister. Then spray for 10 seconds and pump up again. It's simple, ingenious, and practical. With its cap on, the sprayer stands just 7-5/8 inches high, so it tucks away easily on any countertop. Made of satin-finish stainless steel with a black-band accent, it's sleek as well as utilitarian. --Fred Brack

5 out of 5 stars Great Mister   July 3, 2008
I loved it, light weight, it really mist not spray. Just remember fill it half way throw and don't pump more than 10 times.

3 out of 5 stars Metal is mostly asthetic   June 19, 2008
I've had a plastic version of this mister which has served me well for many years and was looking for another only in case the first one finally failed. I chose a metal one hoping that metal would make it even tougher (to last even longer ;^). But, although I had the impression that the entire unit would be metal, in fact, only the outer shell that is so -- the inner workings remain the plastic vessel, etc.

Of course my plastic one has become discolored with age, but the plastic shell is tough and I wouldn't worry about much less than an elephant footfall to hurt it.
On the bright side, I expect the metal version to retain it's surface appearance for its lifespan (so it would be good for those who want everything neat, tidy and matching in their kitchen).

Other than the materials issue, the mister works as expected -- pump it up well and it mists well, less pressure leads to "spitting and dribbling."

1 out of 5 stars Stylish Garbage   April 23, 2008
The Misto arrived and we happily filled it about half-way with oil per instructions. Pumped it and sprayed. Worked well but pressure seemed low. Looked a plunger and found it was cracked. Returned it to Amazon for a replacement. That arrived quickly at no charge. We opened it and looked at the plunger. OMG! It was cracked in the same place! We are returning it for money back. Too bad. This could be a super little product but clearly the manufacturer either does not care or is simply not capable of making a real product.

1 out of 5 stars Be sure they send the Stainless one   March 15, 2008
Careful! Twice I ordered the Stainless Steel Misto, and twice they sent me the Aluminum one, which sells on another page here at Amazon for five dollars less. You can easily tell the difference by the black plastic on top of the lid of the aluminum one - the steel one is all steel, as in the pictures.

3 out of 5 stars Good idea, not well executed   December 25, 2007
This is a good idea. It is like a refillable version of a can of cooking spray. By filling it yourself, you can be certain that what is in it is just oil, with no additives. I was pretty surprised to learn that many cooking sprays contain silicone oil. Safe to eat, but that doesn't mean I want to!

Unfortunately, the spray turned out to be pretty weak. It also takes a lot of pumping to get enough out. Oil is a fairly viscous liquid, so it is hard to pump it out using only air pressure, as this device does.

After a short period of time, it clogged, but I was able to get it working again by disassembling it and soaking it in hot water. The hot water warms up the oil and thins it out, and takes out the clogs. Unfortunately, after a little while (a couple of weeks) it clogged again, so I can see this will be an ongoing battle.

With the combination of the weak stream, the need for lots of pumping, and the clogging, I eventually gave up and stopped using this. I went back to the prepackaged cooking sprays, but now I read the ingredient list more carefully. I still have no desire to eat silicone.
