Product Description
HAND COLOURED ENGRAVING 1836-1839 by. A. Carie Baron, Pedretti, du Casse, Adolphe Fries, de Sainson, Varin et al. (artists and engravers) Felix Edouard Guerin-Meneville (1799-1874) (editor) . from Picturesque Dictionary of Natural History OR Dictionnaire Pittoresque d'Histoire Naturelle Paris: 1836-1839. Hand-coloured engravings 11 x 7.inches each ( 28 x 18 ) . Guerin-Meneville was a natural history scientist, specializing in entomology. He also published several volumes of his , wide-ranging investigations of natural phenomena and interest in exotic or unusual species. The ENGRAVINGS are an AWESOME collection of gracefully drawn images of birds, fish, insects, fruit, flowers, trees and native peoples, frequently combining plants, animals and landscape backgrounds on the same plate. . Condition: Generally very good, the colors bright and clear, with the usual light toning, wear, soiling, some bleeding see image.. THESE PLATES ARE ORIGINAL AND OVER 160 YEARS OLD, THEY ARE NOT MODERN REPRODUCTIONS.. NOTE ENLARGED IMAGE IS GREATER THAT ACTUAL SIZE BUT THIS GIVES YOU AN IDEA OF THE EXTRAORDINARY QUALITY OF THESE COLLECTORS ITEMS OF NATURAL HISTORY ..
