2 out of 5 stars Works but not Happy   July 7, 2008
Tried it today July 2008 and after reading the comments (which I didn't when I purchased it) I agree with most of the posters. The price was good, looked nice, can extend the snout .5 to 2.75", runs on butane (like most cig lighters). This is great for reaching into a fireplace, BBQ or down into a glass to light a candle, kinda a replacement for the LONG Fireplace matches. However, there is NO FUEL in the lighter so you gotta purchase a can of butane with an adapter made for lighters (not the Butane for camp stoves). This web page needs to say "this lighter will require filling with Butane and thumb muscles before you can use it". The slide switch is way to hard to slide. I can do it but a smaller person or elderly will have trouble. Now that I have filled it I will say it lights every time. Cons: Takes a strong thumb to operate and arrives empty. Next time I'll read the comments before purchasing anything.

5 out of 5 stars Very nice lighter at the right price.   April 23, 2008

This lighter is well built and didn't give me any problems. As a matter of fact it works every time I pushed the slide forward. If you are an average man the slide will offer a little resistance, but nothing to the extent that the other user's feedback notes. For the price alone and reliability im giving this five stars I ordered this with other items (blu rays) I bought from Amazon and got free shipping. Great Deal!

It should be noted for this review I first decided to buy this lighter after e-mailing Chelsea Watch and they didn't return a simple e-mail asking about their inventory on the Zippo series lighter. Amazon answers "every" e-mail without question and have always been very dependable.

1 out of 5 stars Very Bad   September 27, 2007

1 out of 5 stars It looks good but is terrible to use if you can use it at all.   April 13, 2007

If two previous reviews were not enough for you not to buy this, here's another try.

I bought 4 of them in one package at Costco and I deeply regret the purchase. I am surprised that Costco actually decided to sell these. I bought these because they looked good and were refillable. I thought I was saving money by buying refillable lighters.

1. They make it sound so easy that you just slide the switch forward to ignite. Actually you have to "push hard" (probably with your thumb) to ignite as other reveiwers noted. Looking for a great thumb exercise? This is it. This is quite a challenge especially for women. My wife's success rate was so low that she stopped using it at all.

2. These did not come with fuel. You can't use them right away. To me, that was close to DOA (Dead on arrival). I tried to fill it up with big butane bottle for a portable gas burner but that worked marginally. I need to get one of those gas lighter refill butane bottle or maybe an adapter. I was going to buy it but I did not expect to buy it right away before I can use them. I was searching for it anyway and ran into this Amazon site and I felt obligated to let you potential buyers know that you are about to buy a real frustration (read: don't buy it).

3. It's very hard for me to admit that I've bought a terrible product and that's why I still have them. I am still trying to make it right by buying butane refill and use them even though I am not sure at this point if it's better to admit a mistake and throw them all away.

4. One that I bought while ago for a couple of dollars at Target was "pull" type. It was like pulling a trigger and that was really easy. I would not buy any "push" or "slide" type from now on. Now I am looking for similar any "pull" type lighter.

2 out of 5 stars Disappointed   April 7, 2007

The price of shipping was more than the lighter making for a product that looked good but turned out not to be worth the price.
It's very hard to push the slider to cause the ignition. A child-protection device? I suppose but as an adult, I was not amused. It takes several tries to get it to ignite as well. At least my fingers get some excercise so all is not lost. Go for a cheaper item at your local $.99 store.
