Amazon.com Review
A fun and versatile alternative to the traditional lunchbox and thermos, the Ms. Bento lunch jar from Zojirushi is a great tool for the daily brown-bagger. Designed to keep hot foods hot and cold foods cold, the set includes two lidded bowls that nest tidily inside the insulated jar. The lidded jar, in turn, tucks into a compact bag with room for utensils or a banana on the side. The inner bowls are microwavable, so lunch can be warmed up in the morning, and their lids create a tight seal. A smart, purposeful design, the jar is crafted with a stainless steel interior and vacuum insulation, making it durable as well as great at temperature retention. Ideal for soup, hot pasta, or leftover stir-fry, the set has a total capacity of 22-1/2 ounces. It includes the bag, the jar, two lidded inner bowls, and a set of chopsticks, all of which should be washed by hand to preserve their functional integrity. A larger version of the set, called Mr. Bento, is also available. --Emily Bedard

4 out of 5 stars Great but....   January 14, 2008

I couldn't wait to get my new bento box since I was so sick and tired of eating crappy school lunch that cost an arm and a leg. When it finally came though, I was disappointed to say the least since it was much smaller than what was described. It holds the same amount as the mini thermal bento but instead of having 3 containers, there are only 2. Which is not really a big deal since it functions much better than the mini. The bottom container is where food like rice or soup should go; this is the only part where the food will remain very hot until you're ready to eat it. It's not leak proof so putting soup in there is not recommended but I think if you cover it with plastic wrap before you put the lid on it should be ok.

However, the top container is leak proof so putting soup in there seems to be a no brainer but the thing is it does not keep the soup hot. After about 2-3 hrs my soup was luke warm and I don't like that especially since I expected to sip some hot soup on a cold winter day. It's best to put your meat and veggies in the top container. It keeps food warm enough until you're ready to have lunch but does not heat it in such a way that your meat gets rubbery or your veggies get mushy. I've put chicken with the rice in the bottom container and it tasted

2 out of 5 stars Unfulfilled expectation   October 8, 2007

I was quite impressed with the previous review of this item and reviews for similar lunch jars by the same company. After a suspenseful week of waiting, my lunch jar finally arrived. Unfortunately it did not live up to expectations. I downloaded the English product manual from Zojirushi's website and the followed directions. I heated up the lunch jar and the food containers with boiling water at about 8 am, dumped the water, dried everything with a towel, and filled the food containers with hot food. By the time I sad down for lunch at 12:15 my food was only lukewarm, and after having the food container open for about 5 minutes, everything was dead cold. I expected my food to keep much warmer after a few hours than it did.

I would not recommend use of this particular jar if you intend to keep your food warm for more than about 3 hours.

5 out of 5 stars A pretty little lunch jar that does the job   June 3, 2007

Originally, I wanted to buy Mr. Bento, then realized I might end up with more food than I can or should eat during lunch. So I bought the Zojirushi Ms. Bento Stainless Lunch Jar for me, and the Zojirushi Mr. Bento Stainless-Steel lined Lunch Jar for my husband. We've been using both lunch jars for more than a month now. I'm not a big fan of brown-bagging lunch, but eversince we've received our bentos, eating out has become a rare occurrence.

When I received the package, the box for Ms. Bento Lunch Jar reminded me of those Hello Kitty items. It's pink! It's all in Japanese, but I headed straight to the Zojirushi website (http://www.zojirushi.com/ourproducts/lunchjars/sl_md.html) and found the manual I needed. So far, so good. It comes with chopsticks & chopsticks holder, but I put in my own utensils. Not a problem. I do use chopsticks, but sometimes, the food I pack can't be eaten with chopsticks. Anyway, it's fantastic how the bag looks like a little tote bag. It doesn't look like a lunch bag! The jar fits perfectly inside the bag, plus there's room for a banana or some other fruit.

I know Zojirushi also has a Mini Bento Stainless Lunch Jar, which I'm thinking of buying for my nieces.

If you're thinking a lunch jar that costs almost $50 is a waste of money, think again. This one is worth every penny.
