Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
Bakers know that the key to a perfect pie has a lot to do with the crust. Say good-bye to burnt edges using this handy Pie Crust Shield. It sits around any 9-in. or 10-in pie and allows edges to cook evenly. The result is a flaky crust without cracking or breaking. Light enough to leave your fluted edges intact and allow heat to circulate through for complete baking.

Amazon.com Review
No pie ever baked has cooked uniformly around the edges, so bakers everywhere reach for the aluminum foil to place little shields around the edges to keep them from burning. If you're like me, your foil falls off, or is too thick in some places and too thin in others, causing uneven browning. This pie crust shield effortlessly saves the day. Just place the shield over the pie before you slip it in the oven and leave it on the whole time--that's it. The aluminum ring slips right over frozen or homemade pies that are from 9-1/2 to 10 inches in diameter and encourages them to rise in the middle, reducing spillage from the sides. Durable and reusable, it's also dishwasher-safe. --Doree Armstrong

4 out of 5 stars helps a lot   December 28, 2007

I use this product whenever I make a pie. It definitely works to keep the crust from burning. Others that I have tried do not have a wide enough space underneath to fit down tightly on my glass pans.

5 out of 5 stars A must for the pie baker   December 4, 2007
This pie crust shield is wonderful. The edge of the pie crust never burns. The shield is easy to clean and store. It is so much easier to use than tin foil. You'll love it if you bake pies!

2 out of 5 stars Great concept, needs better material   April 24, 2007

I bought these because I was sick of creating foil shields on the pies I bake. I love that these slip perfectly on and off. However, I've found that since they're made of metal or aluminum, they actually conduct heat and cause the crust of the pie to darken faster than the center--which is exactly what I DIDN'T want it to do. That said, I have to admit that while the edges of my pies look darker than the rest, it hasn't come out burnt as it would if I were to bake the pie without any sort of shield.

I'm planning on buying another brand's--something made from silicone instead.

4 out of 5 stars Works Like a Charm   March 29, 2007

One of my biggest challenges in baking pies is to ensure that I don't burn the crust while baking the pie itself. This shield really did the trick. It fits my best pans, and I don't worry about my crusts any more. I also took another reviewer's suggestion and sprayed the inside with oil prior to placing on the crust, and it worked like a charm.

4 out of 5 stars Pie Shield   March 22, 2007

Very useful item! Have you ever forgotten to wrap your pie's crust in tin foil after the first 15 minutes of baking? Now I never have burned crusts on my pies anymore! Thanks, Rachel Ray, for suggesting we use a pie shield on Oprah's show... I never knew these existed. I wish I had one in every size.
