Makes excellent espresso. The first time that I used it, I used a special coffee blend that my neighbor roasts (in a popcorn maker!!!) from beans bought green from the importer. I mixed it with water and it made a tasty Americano. The process of brewing involves evaporating the water in the bottom portion then recondensing it in the top portion, and it's fascinating. It works relatively quickly, but it's a little tricky to wash.
