Cook up to six perfectly poached eggs with this handy insert from Scanpan. Made to fit any Scanpan 10-1/4-inch pan, the poacher consists of an 18/10 stainless-steel frame that holds six cast-aluminum cups, each with its own knob handle for removal. Scanpan's ceramic-titanium nonstick finish inside each cup prevents the usual mess that sticking eggs can cause. To use, simply crack an egg into the cups, lower the frame by its handle into a shallow pan of water, cover, and simmer gently until done. No butter or oil is required, keeping calories down. Made in Denmark, the egg poacher is dishwasher-safe.

In response to environmental concerns regarding nonstick finishes, Scanpan in 2007 introduced its Green Tek nonstick technology. Working with its suppliers, Scanpan is the first cookware company to completely eliminate the use of the harmful chemical PFOA from the entire process used to make its nonstick compound. Hmmm...the "jury is out" on this one June 24, 2008

So maybe I didn't read the description well enough...but in order to cook the eggs in this poacher, you need a lid. I did not pair the insert with a Scanpan. I am using a pan I already had (which didn't have a lid). So as long as you have a pan that is exactly 10 1/4 inch diameter with a lid, or you have the correct Scanpan already...this poacher won't work. I must say though, now that I have the pan & lid issue resolved, the eggs DO poach nicely and when you spray a little oil in the cups before cracking in the eggs...they slide out nicely and have a perfect shape.

The product is considered non-stick. The eggs stuck to the cups and cleaning the cups took a while. Even soaking the cups didn't help. I bought these to avoid spending money on a $50.00 pan and poucher set but it wasn't worth it.
