I was searching for an every day colander and found it here. This Norpro Colander is just the right size for normal family use (1 lb. of pasta, bagged steamed veggies etc.). I was considering going up to the larger size and upon reading other reviews decided to go with the 8-5/8 and I am so glad I did. Easy to store, sturdy & not tipsy in the sink, strong handles/feet and holes that are big enough to strain but not too big that food flows through them. I am very pleased with this purchase.

The colander is heavy gauge stainless, so durable and the pasta slides out so easily after straining the pasta. Easy cleanup, good metal finish.

I've been using an antique (only because it's old -- not valuable) plastic colander for years. With the recent scare on how dangerous plastic products can be in the preparation and serving of foods, I began eying these shiny colanders and, finally, splurged on this 4-quart Norpro model as one of four items on the 4for3 promotion on Amazon. The new colander was delivered yesterday by USPS (who, I must say have been totally reliable in product deliveries from Amazon, as I slowly revitalize my kitchenware as long as this 4for3 promotion lasts!) I haven't used it yet. However, I agree 100% with those who are taken with the "beauty" of this utensil. It is gorgeous. I know that when using attractive sturdy utensils the preparation of any food becomes an enhanced aesthetic experience. The food just tastes better and is more satisfying because the experience of preparation becomes a pleasure and not a chore. It is, indeed, attractive enough to be a counter fixture that complements my white/stainless small appliances beautifully. Come Halloween, I can also dress as a Viking and use my gorgeous colander as a helmet. YES -- it fits!

I love this colander! It's got a steady base so it stays put when you're doing hazardous tasks like straining hot pasta. It works great as a colander, and is so attractive that I use it as a fruit bowl or other centerpiece when it's not in use in the sink. When it's dirty. I pop it in the dishwasher and it comes out like new. At this time of year, it would be a great gift for a June bride.
