Editorial Reviews:

Amazon.com Review
The mouth of this gently rounded pot measures 9 inches across, while its flat bottom is only 4 inches, allowing you to use the small burner on your stove for a relatively big pot: the wide surface area will speed any soup or stock reduction you have in mind. Cast iron, of course, has marvelous heating qualities, so heat spreads evenly from this pot's base up its sides. You can also use this soup pot in the oven; loop handles help you carry and lift even the heaviest casserole. The baked-on interior and exterior enamel coating means this pot will not react with any acidic foods and is easy to clean. The glorious enameled colors of Le Creuset's cookware makes it suitable for the table, as well. --Schuyler Ingle

5 out of 5 stars Makes a great little bean pot as well...   April 19, 2007

I bought my first Le Creuset set in NY over 20 years ago. I have since obtained a new piece every few years. This little soup pot is one of my favorites. I love to cook flavorful bean recipes and this pot makes it so easy. I just saute onions, garlic, peppers, meats or spices first, then empty in the beans and liquid and leave it alone for 45 minutes to an hour on low. So easy to use and so easy to clean. A great little soup (and bean) pot at a great price.

4 out of 5 stars old-school style   March 15, 2006

Even though the pot's description says its a 2-3/4 quart soup pot, it turned out to be a lot smaller than I imagined. Overall, its quite good though, distrubutes heat very well and is really cute (I chose the red one). I got it because this brand is known to last long and have great quality cookware, and it's proven itself thus far. If you are looking for a great slow-cooker, or old-fashioned soup pot, this is the way to go. Be careful though, if you are used to non-stick types with plastic handles... this pot heats up fast and super hot.

5 out of 5 stars It's called a soup pot for a reason...   September 17, 2005

I love this soup pot. I own virtually every Le Creuset item made since the sixties, plus a few pieces handed down to me. And an excellent soup pot it is. I also recommend their new Doufeu which I own and love. Best meat cooker I have ever owned.

The difference between this and the various Le Creuset dutch ovens is the curved shape which allows soup stocks and broths to simmer slow and not have any meat or vegetables settle into straight sides. This can be tricky for the serious cook, because food that cannot be stirred completely can settle and overcook leaving an off taste. The size is also nice for two to six healthy servings of a hearty soup or stew.

And the cost isn't that high when one considers the near one hundred year guarantee Le Creuset offers on its products. And its called a soup pot not a casserole. So one can simmer on a low flame any soup, with the heavy cast iron core holding the heat at a steady temperature which is what produces the best soups.

5 out of 5 stars The Love of my Kitchen   September 17, 2003

This is the best thing I ever had in my kitchen. Although it is relatively costly, every penny is worth paying for this beautiful cast iron pot. It is the cook's best friend, second to none. One of the things I love in Le Crueset products is that you could use it from the freezer to oven, then straight to the dining table where you could proudly show it off to your guests due to its elegantly classic design.

5 out of 5 stars The most useful pot in my kitchen-too bad its French   May 18, 2003

This really is the best the best gift I've received in years. I can brown a chicken in olive oil on my gas burner then transfer it directly to the oven for roasting. Once finished the enamel cleans easier then just about anything else I've seen.

To heck with Al Clad and the rest.

This is the one piece that will never leave my kitchen!
