These placemats add further charm to a table set with Spode's Floral Haven Imperialware. Designed to complement the dinnerware as well as Floral Haven glassware, the mats showcase striped tulips and realistic butterflies against a green and white background. Each mat measures 15-1/2 by 11-1/2 inches, and is comprised of a vinyl top that easily wipes clean, and a cork backing that protects fine wood furniture.

Breezy and delightful, Spode's Floral Haven dinnerware brings nature indoors. Flowers and leaves colorfully curve and protrude in an almost whimsical fashion from the borders into the centers of the white pieces, while insects flit here and there. Attractive mats, fair quality March 27, 2007

These mats look quite good, and at first blush appear to be well constructed. However, after only a few weeks of use, they began to show signs of poor quality. For example, the edges of each mat is very susceptible to water infiltration and weakening. This causes the edging to separate from the mat itself, showing a white base material of a paper like consistency. Also, the surface covering is not, as I had hoped, a high pressure laminate (like a thin Formica , for example), but rather a material akin to a very thin varnish. The product is touted as having a "vinyl" coating, which I had expected to be quite durable, but this is apparently not the case. A small pin-prick hole in one of the mats allowed water to penetrate underneath, causing a slightly discolored, sessile blemish to appear, which cannot be removed. After two months of use, the mats are still quite attractive, but for the cost I definitely expected better quality. But what is perhaps most important is that my wife loves them, in spite of their defects, and I definitely got extra points for buying them as a surprise gift for her instead of buying more fishing gear or yet another power tool. (Guys, are you listening?).
