Steam danger! November 15, 2008
Awful!! I'll probably throw it out and buy another brand. If only I had kept the packaging material.

1. Scalding steam escapes from the carafe onto your hand when pouring. You have to use two hands in awkward positions to pour safely. Be very, very careful until you figure it out!!

2. There aren't any lines indicating volumes for the water reservoir, except for 4, 6, 8, and 10 cups. You have to measure ahead of time or guess.

3. The coffee-filter basket can't stand free. You have to use two hands awkwardly, or insert the filter basket into the coffee maker or a glass for filling.

4. The coffee-filter basket is between sizes 2 and 4. A #4 filter is too tall and a #2 filter is too short. You'll have to cut #4s to fit.

5. The carafe's lid is impossible to remove and reattach, except perhaps by a strong and careful teenager. Bottom line: you can't wash the carafe.

6. The carafe drips while pouring both water into the reservoir and coffee into the cup.

7. The clock loses a minute every few days.

Overall, a horribly-engineered product. H-B should be ashamed.

Bought this on sale at Sears, very disappointed. First of all the carafe top will not come off unless you force it off and if you do, the pieces that hold it in place break off - the tiny nubs that go into the handle. Hamilton Beach did send me a new lid. The poor design of the carafe spout guarantees you will drip with every cup you pour, no matter what you do. Also when you fill the water reservoir you will spill if you use the carafe. Don't bother with this model. Very, very messy to use.

PRETTY DECENT MACHINE, FOR THE PRICE. May 20, 2008

This machine is pretty good. The only problems I had with it is that the filter cup moves for cleaning (which is kind of a good thing) but it's a little weird to get it back so the top closes good. Also I had a little trouble finding a "forever filter" to fit this machine. You also have to make sure to put the pot back in firmly against the back of the machine or it might drip strangly. All in all a decent machine for the cost.
