Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
Completely automatic, the new Capresso FrothXpress is the ideal companion for your coffeemaker. A sturdy pump and powerful stainless steel thermoblock produce enough hot steam to froth up to 30-oz. of milk in seconds-that's enough cappuccinos or lattes for you and some friends! The milk temperature can be adjusted from 120 to 170 degrees F, while an indicator light lets you know when it's ready. Then, simply add your preferred espresso or coffee and enjoy. Great for hot chocolate too. Removable milk and water containers, easy to clean frother parts, and a patented safety pressure release make this item especially user friendly. 1200 watts.

Amazon.com Review
If you're a fan of cappuccinos, lattes, hot chocolate, or other drinks that use hot, frothy milk (and really, who isn't?), then Capresso's FrothXpress should become an indispensable part of your kitchen collection. After it's been turned on and warmed up for two minutes, it's easy to use. Just fill the water tank (which is in the actual machine), then fill the milk tank (which is a separate unit), and attach them. From that moment, it's just a matter of putting a cup under the spout and pressing the button--voilą, steamed frothy milk for a variety of treats. The milk temperature is adjustable from 120 to 170 degrees F, and the frother has 1,220 watts of power, as well as a stainless-steel ThermoBlock that ensures the aluminum parts don't touch the steam, a nice safety feature. The FrothXpress measures 8-3/4 by 6-1/2 by 8-3/4 inches (length by width by height), and looks sharp in gleaming bright black plastic. --A.J. Rathbun

3 out of 5 stars Works great, as long as it lasts   July 6, 2008
After maybe 18 months of everyday use the seal in the water reservoir failed. Water leaked onto the parts below and they corroded. I took the unit apart, cleaned the contacts and used it another year. Now it's having trouble again and I'm tired of messing with it, but I'm buying a replacement because it's still the best product I can find. It would be even better without the planned obsolescence -- improve the seal, and, as back up, make those internal parts out of something that water can't damage.

4 out of 5 stars 4+ years was a good run   June 20, 2008
Well, we used ours for over 4 years, and it finally died. The unit came on, but the button didn't work any more. I like to see what makes things tick, so I took the machine apart which was no easy task. I don't recommend doing that unless it completely stops working. A couple of the plastic clips had cracked, but the real problem was corrosion on the metal contact parts. For a few cents more, Capresso could have used stainless steel and made this thing really last.
We did get good use from it though, using it almost every day and usually a few times per day for 4 years. It can be difficult at times to make work right, but once you learn its quirks it'll work okay for you. We missed not having it immediately, and the coffee doesn't taste as good without it. We will probably buy a replacement since I don't see anything else close for the price.

4 out of 5 stars Great product   April 7, 2008
When I first got this steamer, I had some problems with it. It would make steam, but the liquid coming out of it was cold. I contacted Capresso and they were fabulous about replacing the machine at no expense to me-they even sent a return UPS label so I would not have to pay return shipping for the defective one. I just used the new one for the first time and it worked rather well. I do have to say that it does take a few tries before one can get the milk/steam/froth ratio (how 'bout that for a professional sounding review?) down, but now it is great. I would highly recommend this product and Capresso as a company. For us non-coffee drinkers, it is nice to be able to steam milk without having to buy an entire coffee maker with steamer.

4 out of 5 stars After a year & a half I still depend on my easy latte maker   April 5, 2008
I bought my Frother 1 & 1/2 years ago & learned to use it. It isn't the easiest thing to figure out, but with a little thought it has worked like the book says it should. I am happy with it. I just called Capresso customer service as mine just stopped working this morning (After 1 & 1/2 years of daily use!) For $35 (including shipping!) they are replacing my unit with a brand new one (they'll fix the old one for $30, so it''s an easy choice.)

The learning process was as follows:
(1) You must learn to push the button long enough to get the desired amount of milk, by stopping the button push early. This is because you're letting water into the steam unit while you hold down the button, and of course it will continue to steam AFTER you let the button up. It took a few tries but was then never a problem.

(2) The froth nozzle must be pushed snuggly up against the spring mounted circle safety switch that surrounds the nozzle projection (the black cylinder with the red o ring.) If this is ignored, it won't do anything. I went to the hardware store and found a nylon washer that is 1/8 in. thick, 1 & 3/16 in. outside diameter, & about 1/2 in. inside diameter. I put this over the projection, then put the nozzle on next; this way I can push the washer up against the spring mounted circle with one hand and snug the nozzle up against it with the other. It sounds strange, I suppose, but it works well.

(3) When I put the nozzle on I slide the chrome cover up about 1/4 in. on the rubber nozzle; this in effect lengthens (the rubber part extends down that much) the nozzle as the nozzle needs to be submerged in the milk in your coffee cup for it to froth. I use the shallowest cup I have.

The result is that I have had excellent lattes every morning for 18 months, and for a mere $35 every year or two I will continue. Don't let the folks who spent a couple of hours and gave up throw you off.

1 out of 5 stars It didn't work   March 25, 2008
We were stupid enough to buy one of these. The first one was DOA. The second one worked 3, count 'em, 3 times. This is a bad deal. Now the company says they will not replace. This is a warning. Don't buy this product.
