Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
Enjoy the taste of outdoor grilling without all the mess from the embers and used charcoal with this electric grill. Made for use indoors, it features a large, nonstick surface so fish, burgers and hot dogs won't stick as they cook. A knob at the side lets you control the heat so foods cook properly without burning. A drip pan underneath the cooking surface is easy to remove and cleans easily at your kitchen sink. For added safety, the handles are cool-to-the-touch.

Amazon.com Review
Ideal for grilling steaks, chicken, fish, burgers, and vegetables indoors, this 1300-watt countertop appliance has a big, family-size grill surface of 12-1/2 by 9-1/4 inches coated with nonstick for low-fat cooking and easy cleaning. A variable heat control provides precise cooking temperatures, and the grill's handles and stylish, dark-gray plastic base stay cool during operation for safety. Another safety feature prevents the heat control, which provides power to the appliance, from being inserted unless the metal drip tray and cooking grid are in place and prevents the grid from being removed during operation. The appliance disassembles easily for cleaning, and the drip tray is dishwasher-safe. Overall, the unit measures 20-3/4 inches wide, 6-1/8 inches high, and 14 inches deep. --Fred Brack

2 out of 5 stars smokeless? ...you people are insane   May 4, 2008
0 out of 4 found this review helpful

to everyone who chimed in on how great smokeless this grill is.. what are you people on? SERIOUSLY.. what is your definition of smokeless.. or hell, how do you use this grill that it becomes smokeless? I gave it a first-run this weekend with some burgers and my kitchen got so smokey i had to use fans to blow the smoke out the window..

purchased it on others claiming it to be smokeless and that wasn't anywhere near the case

is it a great grill? yea, it heats up quite nicely, leaves marks on the food, nice countertop space saving design, etc..

it's a great grill

but smokeless? I'm rating this 2 stars when I would normally rate it 4 stars because that's how annoyed I am at people who wrote smokeless but the product couldn't be further from the truth

what you people cooking on?! LOW?! .. smokeless.. -sigh-

5 out of 5 stars Great Grilling   April 26, 2008

I love this grill! Now, I know that nothing beats charcoal but this is the next best thing. I don't "get" gas grills: All of the mess and none of the flavor of charcoal grilling. I have tried and given up on stove-top grill pans; they were hard to clean, too heavy, not really non-stick. Also had a George Forman grill and didn't like it; the food was not really like grilled, somehow. This grill is exactly what I wanted and needed. It heats up quickly, gets *hot* enough to really grill, has a really non-stick finish and is very easy to clean. I have had it for about three weeks and have so far grilled chicken, salmon, and beef (rib eye steaks tonight). All turned out perfect, fast and delicious - next best thing to charcoal grilling! You do need to oil either the food or the grill (I brush a little olive oil on whatever I'm grilling). I highly recommend this grill.

5 out of 5 stars Tasty cooking   April 21, 2008

Probably like most people I have had indoor grillers before. George Foreman grills mostly. Which do a fairly good job.

This grill is different. It has some drawbacks compared to the Foreman but the bottomline difference is food tastes better on this that any other indoor grill I have used.

The drawbacks are that it does not cook as fast as the Foreman grills because it is only cooking on one side. On the other hand it doesn't get 'smunched' and items are MUCH juicer and flavorful done on this grill.

The cleaning is not hard but rather awkward. The heating elements on on the bottom of the cooking plate. So you can not immerse it, but you can take it over to the sink and carefully clean it. It also has numerous holes and food in the middle of the holes is awkward to get at. But it cleans pretty easy and the drip pan is a breeze to clean. The cord and heating control fit underneath the cooking surface so it stores easier.

I would probably give a 4.5 stars because of the awkward cleaning and also cooking things like onions is a pain because they will fall through except if you do them on the solid part. Also it is not as big as some of the newer foreman. You can do a complete meal for 2 (meat and veggies...barely). You can also cook 3 to 4 meat only depending on the size.

So it has limitations. But the food tastes great, no real smoke problems, and cleaning is fairly easy just awkward. So for making tasty grilled food, and for whatever reason it does come out much better than Foreman grills, I do recommend it.

4 out of 5 stars High quality Indoor Grill   April 9, 2008

My quest for the perfect indoor grill began after seeing an advertisement at Hammacher Schlemmer for a smokeless indoor grill. After thoroughly looking at their advertisement it was apparent that their grill was made by Delonghi. There were a number of Delonghi grills offered on Amazon for less money. Through my Amazon searches I stumbled upon the Zojirushi grill. The reviews were outstanding, it was available on Amazon Prime, so I gave it a whirl! So far, I'm very happy with my purchase. As mentioned by other reviewers, it is rather large but fits nicely on my stove top during cooking. It is very easy to assemble and dissasemble. The instruction manual is terse but easy to understand. 2 of the 4 pieces are dishwasher safe. I grilled both Filets and Strip steaks and there was almost negligible smoke. The Bubba Burgers did smoke a little but not enough to set off the smoke detector. Overall, I'm happy with my purchase of the Zojirushi Indoor Electric Grill.

Pros
- Large grilling surface
- High quality parts
- Adjustable temperature
- Dishwasher safe pan and drip tray
- Nearly smokeless
- Fits easily in closet after disassembly

Cons
- A little tricky to get the top clean without submersing in water
- No cover provided

We moved into a senior apartment complex which does not allow outdoor grills of any sort. This seemed like the perfect solution and it is. Great brand and does a really first class job - just be sure to turn place on your stove and turn on your fan otherwise smoke alarms will sound.
