On hot summer days nothing beats a scoop of snow--to eat! This delightful Snowman churns out bowlfuls of shaved ice in just seconds. Kids can slurp flavored sno-cones for a birthday party and adults can sip frozen daiquiris for evenings on the deck. Two 4-inch round plastic molds with lids are included for freezing water, syrup-flavored water, or fruit juices. Simply place the frozen round (regular ice cubes will work, too, but not as well) in the blade unit, cover with the motorized top, and press down on the palm-size operating button. A bowl placed underneath (not included) catches the instant snow. For safety the sharp blade is completely internal and not accessible to fingers when the Snowman is operating. The machine measures 13 inches high when assembled, with an 8-inch-square base. A one-year warranty covers the Snowman against defects. --Ann Bieri

4 out of 5 stars Great and Nice Shaver   May 11, 2008
This Ice Shaver is good for 2 to 3 person. But if you are planning to have a party like 4 or more this machine is not for you. It is slow when you are using the ice cubes and need a lot of pressure and muscle. I used it to make our ever famous Filipino Halo Halo. This thing is perfect. I love it because it is cheap and dont need any fancy shaver since I know I will not use so often.

I have beat the crap out of this thing, and it still works great! I wish I could get extra ice molds, but freezer cubes work just fine in a pinch. This is one of those rare products that delivers more than promised.

I picked up a great tip from the Hawaiian Shave Ice website (great syrups, BTW). Before you start shaving, let the ice sit at room temperature for 10-15 minutes. The pros call this tempering, and it produces that flaky ice like you get at a shave ice stand.

At first I thought it might be broken because the big button I pushed on top didn't start the motor a few times, but now no problems. So far I've made several snow cones for friends, family - and most importantly - myself.

Put Torani syrup on top. Yummy!

I figure a few more snow cones, and this thing will have paid for itself compared to the amount I spent every summer at the snow cone stand.

We find this very easy to use and super fast! I prefer to shave the ice, then add the flavoring. All you have to do is let it dry for a few minutes, then put it back in the cupboard. We use it at least once a week in the warm months. I wish it came with more containers, and I am going to check and see if I can get more. It works best with the round shape block containers they provide. Each block makes one very large serving, or two kid size servings!

It takes quite a while to make just 4 snow cones. You need to put a lot of pressure on the top in order to get shaved ice to come out.
