Designed in 1962 by Harold Holdcroft, Royal Albert's Old Country Roses has become one of the most popular china patterns in the company's century-long history. Measuring 8 inches in diameter, this round salad plate beautifully complements the entire line of Old Country Roses tableware pieces. The crisp whiteness of the plate gracefully showcases the outer ring of country roses in shades of pink and soft yellow. beautiful plates November 28, 2007
I ordered four of these plates and they arrived in a large box with four smaller boxes in it, containing one plate each.

I was a bit disappointed as one of the plate was made in Indonesia (the other three were made in England). You can tell the differences: the colors of the roses are less vibrant (especially the red color of the roses is darker and dull) and the gilding at the periphery seems to be of lessor, uneven quality. I did a blind test to my friend and that one plate was easily picked up among four as inferior. However, I must add that the one from Indonesia is still beautiful.

My initial impression of the other three plates are very positive. The colors are deliciously lively, and the glaze has delicate translucency.

As the Amazon description didn't say anything about the country of origin, and I bought it with the 4-for-3 promotion, which is an additional 25% discount on an already marked down price, I'm overall happy with the products. I just hope that the Indonesian plate, as well as the others, retains its initial beauty for long time.

Well made, classy, and pretty design March 25, 2007
As I continue to collect Royal Albert Old Country Roses I've had no disappointments with the quality of the pieces I've gotten so far. This salad plate is no exception: the gilding, floral design, and glazing are all top notch. I think most people will be quite satisfied with this salad plate design.

These plates are made in England. Some of the other pieces in the collection are made in Indonesia, Romania, or China. So far I've noticed no difference in the quality of any.

It's fun collecting this pattern. My grandmother might have had this pattern years ago. Anyhow, for me it brings back a former time of greater gentility, a slower pace, a bit of beauty to gaze upon in my daily life, and quality. Not to put too fine a point on it.
