Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
Combining features of a chef's knife and a cleaver, the Santoku is an all purpose Asian-style knife that's ideal for cutting meat, fish and vegetables. The word santoku means "three good things" - a reference to the three cutting tasks it performs so well: slicing, dicing and mincing. The Santoku is designed with kullens, or indentations along its edges, which reduce friction and prevent food from sticking to the blade. The knife also serves as a spatula as you cut, removing cut foods quickly and easily from the cutting surface.

Amazon.com Review
Resembling something between a chef's knife and a cleaver, Calphalon's 7-inch Santoku knife handles a myriad of household cutting tasks. Forged from a single piece of high carbon, stain-resistant steel; this versatile tool features small, oval-shaped indentations along its sharp edge to trap air during use and prevent food from adhering to its sides. As a result, continuous cutting and increased efficiency are part of the offering. A full, visible tang provides strength and balance while the sturdy steel bolster creates space for knuckles to remain safe. Reinforced with fiberglass, the black, poly resin handle won't absorb moisture or crack and is triple-riveted for a wiggle-free hold. Made in Germany and covered by a lifetime warranty; hand washing is recommended. --Amy Arnold

5 out of 5 stars very sharp   August 16, 2006

We have been very happy with this knife. Very sharp. My wife keeps accidentally cutting herself. Whereas, the matching Calphalon 8 inch chef's knife we got in a set at the same time was never very sharp.

This knife has great potential but was very dull when I received it. Also, there is no protective cover - my husband had to make one out of the original plastic packaging!

5 out of 5 stars Great Knife!   December 9, 2005

I recently got into some Asian cooking and wanted and all purpose knife to use, after much thought I went with this knife. It has a very very sturdy design and works great for everything. Great buy!

3 out of 5 stars Before buying this......   October 26, 2005

check out the highly rated Chicago Cutlery 'Centurion'. It sells for $19.99 and looks to be a duplicate of this one. Given the $39.99 price of the Calphalon, I'm not sure that the description is accurate. The description says the Calphalon Santoku Knife is made in Germany. However, I have found that virtually the entire Calphalon line is being manufactured in Communist China.

1 out of 5 stars Knife is great but Amazon scams   April 17, 2005

I was in the market for a santoku knife. Was in the process of ordering from another company when I found the calphalon one on Amazon. Wow! only $39.95, 40% off retail, must be a deal so I ordered that and another $100 worth of stuff. Imagine my shock when a couple of weeks later when I visited caphalon's web site and I see the same knife with a retail price of....$39.95!! Instead of a deal I paid retail! 40% off would have been $26. I emailed amazon about this and all I got back was a canned email about how they try to get the best deals. Lesson learned, don't believe amazon's prices. I've been an amazon customer for years, too bad they can't be trusted.
