5 out of 5 stars I LOVE this coffee maker   September 24, 2008
Fabulous, fabulous machine. The coffee this machine makes tastes better than any other coffee maker I've had (and I'm a longtime Cuisinart fan). Filling it up is not a big deal, I have a measuring cup and I'll bet you have one too. The gauge is not accurate, but it adds a nice touch to the industrial look of the machine. An important note - if you're using the gold filter, grind your coffee to the consistency of espresso - chunky grinds can clog the filter. The only downside is because it makes coffee that tastes so good, I drink more coffee!

3 out of 5 stars Cuisinart DCC- Coffee-on-Demand-Broken after 1 year   September 24, 2008
I got this coffeemaker as a wedding gift. For one year it served us well. Looks great, has auto shut off, clock and is programmable. We brewed coffee with it 3-4 times per week. It was well cared for. About a month after the warranty was up (figures), it started "acting up". Not brewing all the water through, I would have to run it twice to get it brew correctly. I made sure it was thoroughly cleaned, still the same issue. Then the other day it just died halfway through brewing. Now I am back to my ancient electric percolator that works like a charm. Which I got for .50 at a yard sale. For the $100 price I am surprised it broke so soon! I am hoping my handy husband can fix it, I miss the convenience and how great it looked on the counter! Though the percolator coffee is mighty tasty!

2 out of 5 stars Is it leakage or excess steam--or both!   September 23, 2008
Looks good on the counter until you try to put water in it. I am on my second unit. Bought first last year here on Amazon. After months of trying figure out what "I" was doing wrong I called Cuisinart and received a replacement---I had concluded I wasn't the problem, the unit was. Imagine my frustration when I found the replacement unit does the same thing--every time I put water in it I find water under and around the unit at the end of the brew cycle--I am talking 1/4 cup most times. Sometimes it pours out as I am pouring it in! (comes from the back center of the silver cup tray you see in the photograph). So then next time I take greater care to put it in in the small/awkward opening, but still water everywhere. Another possible problem, there is a lot of steam that accumulates as the coffee sits for a bit. Somehow it is leaking down through the unit. I lived with the first unit for longer than I should have. Finally the switch failed (others complain about this problem). I am convinced the leakage and excess steam is somehow getting to the switch and causing it to fail over time. Bottom line--great idea. Love not having an unsightly pot/carafe to look at and the the 2 stars. Perhaps I shouldn't even give it two stars. Another point...sometimes there is more leakage than others. Thus, coffee flavor is never consistent because although I measure beforehand--the water leaking out messes up the ratio. Another manufacturer needs to enter the market so we have more than one affordable option. Go ahead and buy it if you want, but be prepared for frustration. I like the idea some have suggested-- a towel should be included in the box!

5 out of 5 stars Plenty Hot, Easy to Use   September 23, 2008
Attractive, easy to use, easy to clean. I like the 1-4 cup setting since that's usually all I make at a time. You can't get a real tall mug to fit under the spout so i've adjusted to using a short fat mug instead--you can get a standard 12-16 oz aluminum travel mug under it but you sure can't see how full it's getting--the little coffee gauge that resembles a fuel gauge is cute. Looks good on the counter so my wife likes it too.
I wouldn't count off for the issue above since that's what I expected when I bought it. if it was taller, it wouldn't fit as well under the cabinet....
I like it!

1 out of 5 stars stopped working after 6 months   September 17, 2008
I absolutely loved this coffeemaker and recommended it to everybody. Now I wish I hadn't. It stopped working after six months. Very expensive mistake.
