Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
Vic Firth was a timpanist with the Boston Symphony Orchestra for nearly fifty years. For the past thirty-five years he has turned his attention to manufacturing the finest drumstick in the world. In keeping with his exacting standards, the same woodturning expertise is now being employed to produce peppermills and salt mills of the highest quality. Here he branches out into design with metal in a clever mill that features single-handed one-finger action! Its small size makes it ideal for trips, the office, camping, picnics and so on.

Amazon.com Review
Embellish a steaming plate of fettuccini Alfredo or a homemade Caesar salad with the flavor of fresh cracked pepper from this sleek Vic Firth pepper mill. The mill requires no twisting to crack peppercorns thanks to its innovative "Pump & Grind" design. It can also be used to crack sea salt or other similar spices such as cardamom.

Constructed of stainless steel, the commercial-strength pepper mill can be operated with one hand. Simply press on the pump to grind pepper from the base of the mill onto food. Its simple operation provides speed and comfort for oft-stressed hands and wrists. A clear peppercorn compartment allows chefs to assess content levels at a glance. The compact size of the mill enables easy kitchen storage or travel. Vic Firth offers a lifetime guarantee for this product. The mill stands 6 inches high, 1 inch wide, and weighs 2 pounds upon shipping. --Jessica Reuling

5 out of 5 stars Best pepper mill EVER!   August 20, 2008
I LOVE this pepper mill. It's just what I've been looking for. It doesn't take up much space, doesn't depend on any batteries, and is perfect for when you're stirring with one hand and adding pepper with the other!

5 out of 5 stars having owned it for some time now, it still is perfect.   July 29, 2008
I love this peppermill as does the family. When using for cooking, I consider it my underarm flab/thumb workout, and for the table it delivers the perfect amount. I love the mechanics of it and it is very stylie. Someday when I think about salt(not too often), I will buy another for salt. Thank you

5 out of 5 stars I have this and the salt mill. Love em!   May 17, 2008
I discovered this item when a work buddy whipped it out at a restaurant and everyone at the table used it to pepper their steak & sides. At the time I was caught between thinking "What is this guy nuts?" and "Man this thing is the most awesome thing I've ever seen." Well I went surfing and found it and am now the proud owner of both the pepper & salt mill (both are the same exact thing). Now I don't take mine to restaurants with me, but it is small enough to easily put in your pocket yet use many times without refilling. Who knows, maybe he carried it on him in case he got in brawl, I don't know, but it's quite a nifty device and works well. Given the unique design, I don't ever see it failing or wearing, so it should last for a long time, given the spring doesn't break or anything

4 out of 5 stars Good for the dinner table, not the kitchen   April 27, 2008

I'm a percussionist so I am very familiar with Vic Firth sticks and mallets, so when I first heard that they were getting into kitchen products, I couldn't help but be intrigued. My mom actually decided on this model because she liked the one handed use.

The good: The build quality is excellent. The stainless steel is quite handsome- it looks good on the dinner table. In some cases, the one handed use is an advantage.

Now for the not so good: In terms of size, it is understandably small so it can fit in the palm of your hand. As a result, it doesn't hold a lot of peppercorns. If you need a lot of pepper, it takes a while and I found that I needed to use both hands so I wouldn't get a sore thumb... You can't really adjust the size of the grind. The grinding mechanism is a plunger style and some people say you can adjust the size of the grind by unscrewing the bottom a little, but I doubt that was actually designed into the product.

Overall, it's a very good product, but I would not use it in the kitchen just because it's too slow. I have the Vic Firth Federal style mill and I don't think it'll leave the kitchen anytime soon.

Expected this to work a lot easier, but I need to use both hands. Like the idea of pumping the mill instead of turning it. Very attractive.
