I have to admit I was a little bit bummed to discover that this classic Oneida now comes marked so that it appears to have had its production outsourced to Indonesia.

I recently damaged one of our dinner forks by sending it for a few laps around our InSinkErator garbage disposal, so I decided to order a replacement on amazon.

The replacement arrived quickly and well packaged, but it has some new markings on it none of our other pieces have.

Our regular Easton pieces all say Oneida. This new replacement fork is marked "Heirloom by Oneida," and it has an origin mark on the back of the fork head that says Indonesia 5-07.

As recently as 2005 I'd bought other Easton pieces on amazon without them having this mark, so I assume the production move was made in the past few years.

The quality seems similar to the old pieces, except for the highly noticeable Indonesia stamp that for some reason they decided to put right on the back of the fork head, not on the handle where you'd expect it to be. This detracts quite a bit from the aesthetics of the piece, and it makes it quite a bit harder to justify the price.

I never minded $40+ place setting prices and $9.99 individual piece pricing when I was sure that Oneida was still employing people at its Oneida, NY factory to produce the products, but now that the production has moved outside the U.S.A., I just don't see these being worth the asking price anymore.
