The ice cream will get a nice little push out of the scoop and into the bowl with this clever gadget. A non-stick coating helps dislodge any reluctant confection. The countoured handle with non-slip grip provides extra leverage and the thin beak will slide right into even hard ice cream. Curved side edges will roll the ice cream into perfectly round scoops in generous dollops. A flat back accommodates both rectangular and round containers.

The i-series is Oxo's latest foray into intelligent product design. This i-series ice-cream scoop breaks through the hard surface of freezer-cold ice cream with its aluminum head that's sculpted into a quasi-egg shape. A thin tip at the top pierces hard ice-cream as it uses its curved edges to gather perfectly rounded servings, then releases them into a bowl with a touch of a button. Other features include a nonstick coating that quickly and easily releases all forms of ice cream and frozen yogurt, including soft serve, and a relatively flat back surface for clearing out square containers as well as round. In addition, the scoop includes a comfortable, ergonomically sound nonslip handle with a hanging hole, as do all other Good Grips products. My obsession with OXO continues. This ice cream scoop is boss. Simple design with a button to push out stubborn scoops of ice cream. If your ice cream is super hard, then run this scoop under hot water for a few seconds to give it a little boost.

The only reason this doesn't get 5 stars is because the detergent from the dishwasher tends to collect in the grooves which creates a little more work to get the scoop completely clean. If I washed it by hand I wouldn't have that problem though.

non-stick coating flakes off December 2, 2007
I have many OXO products in my kitchen and will continue to buy them, but the non-stick coating on this one started to flake off (and into the ice cream). I tossed this one and am buying a different one.

This ice-cream scoop really does what OXO claims - it cuts through hard frozen ice-cream! An excellent scoop, beautifully designed and absolutely does the job!

Love OXO, but not this scoop.... January 2, 2005

I am a big fan of OXO produts and all they've done to make cookware so easy to handle. But this product has a problem with the non-stick coating.

Although the scoop's design is great and it handles well, the coating on my scoop has begun to peel after only 6 mos. of use. And I don't really need teflon in my super fudge chunk, thank you very much.
