These simple, beautiful, and functional dinner plates are part of an entire tableware and bakeware collection designed by Sophie Conran, an English food writer with her own gourmet pie company. Conran infuses her namesake tableware with a flowing organic nature and tactile expression, as evidenced by the ridges and dipped rims that recall handcrafted pottery. Made of porcelain expressly for Portmeirion, the collection comes in white with select pieces available in cool blue celadon and a creamy biscuit color.

Each of these four 11-inch dinner plates shows the collection's finger-ridge motif across the center as well as on the slightly wavy rim. When stacked, the plates with their uneven profiles create a rustic yet modern appeal. Durable and chip-resistant, the plates may be used to warm food in the microwave or oven, can store leftovers in the freezer, and after use, slip into the dishwasher for easy clean-up. I looked for new dishes for a couple of years and finally bought these. I LOVE them. I bought the entire set. Lots of $$. No regrets. I've had them a year and no chips or any problems. They are simple but classy. Everyone comments on them. I love the serving shapes as well.

Love the look, but already chipped April 22, 2008
I bought these dishes (plates, salad plates, and bowls) because I have had Botanic Garden by Portmeirion for 20 years. It holds up so well--NO chips in 20 yrs (broken dishes from dropping, yes, but no chips). I thought of Portmeirion for this reason when I wanted some dishes without as much of a pattern as the Botanic Garden. I really do love the design of the Sophie Conran, slightly uneven edges give it a country look. I have had them about one month, and already a chip. I wrote Portmeirion about this--are they not the same quality of product? I don't know, and I am hoping to get a response.
