4 out of 5 stars ...from a picky, hard-to-please coffee drinker   October 12, 2008
The Krups KM7000 meets all my requirements except for price and brewing directly into a thermal carafe. It incorporates a grinder with the coffee maker, saving much-coveted counter space. It's easy to clean. It uses less electricity (if you pour immediately into a carafe after brewing) than my old coffee maker. This is essential, as I live off-grid. And it makes excellent coffee, given good beans.

Bonus - it's a burr grinder. I didn't expect this in an all-in-one unit. The coffee is quite hot, a real improvement from my old coffee maker-grinder. And it amuses me. There is a swing-aside cover that allows the ground beans to fall into the filter and, when the grinding stops, SNAPS back into place for the rest of the brew cycle.

My only complaint is the price. Anything approaching $100 for a coffee maker is difficult to reconcile, and it took several months of consideration -and the failure of my old coffee machine, plus a couple months more of pouring coffee through a stovetop model - before I parted with my hard-earned cash. The price and the unknown quantity of durability keep this machine from getting a fifth star.

1 out of 5 stars Shoulda listened to the critical reviewers   October 12, 2008
While looking for a grinding coffee-maker, I read the reviews closely.

It was hard to believe that Krup's, a brand I was aware of and liked would make a machine that was as bad as some folks were saying.

I was wrong.

This thing is a joke. I am kicking myself for not sending it back.

Here is why:

The folks who claim that it is a mess are being kind. The mechanism, as designed, slings ground coffee all over the counter. It just does, There is no way that it cannot because of the spring loaded closure to the grinder is not enclosed. The kluge closes and the residue of ground coffee from the chute is scattered. Ya really have to see it "in action" to appreciate this.

Other disappointments are the glass carafe that somehow manages to leak both water and coffee from the spout. Not sure how, but it is nearly impossible to pour from this thing without a cleanup.

I guess the moral is if you looking to save some time by having your beans measured and ground, it does that.

The coffee is good.

The hassle in cleanup offsets the pluses.

....the filter in the water chamber is cool.....

4 out of 5 stars Please develop a non-dripping carafe   October 9, 2008
No matter how careful you pour water into the container, 4 out of five times the spout drips and the faster you pour, the more it runs down the front of the carafe. As many complaints that I have read about this fault, it seems to me, it could or would have been re-engineered by now. With the many different options to brew coffee, you can eventually find the perfect personal taste. I have found when changing a grind setting, that you have to wait for at least two brewings to get the latest set grind. The grind that remains in the ground feed will not completely move out on one brew. I have had this machine for a month and am still perfecting my individual taste. I am almost there and it is getting better every day.

1 out of 5 stars disappointed!   September 18, 2008

Was all happy to upgrade from my beloved meletta coffee maker grinder that broke. Would only grind 1 tablespoon of coffee. and the water would kick on. Sending it back but what to buy now????

3 out of 5 stars OK, but has several faults that make it a pain!   September 15, 2008
1 out of 1 found this review helpful

This looks the business and the coffee does taste good, but it has a few problems that makes it a pain in the a*s

1. Water receptacle is too small for the carafe. If you fill the carafe full, it overflows the receptacle.
2. Water receptace is difficult to fill as the diameter is too small. Water spills everywhere.
3. Receptacle is poorly designed, if you pour too fast coffee (or water) spills.
4. The filter section fits poorly onto the body.
5. Carafe doesn't fit well onto the hotplate.

If you are looking for a great looking machine with good coffee then this is it, but get over the liitle quirks and issues.

Update 9/29 - had it for 1 month and autogrind and brew feature quit!
