4 out of 5 stars Great Product for the money   September 9, 2008
The electronic wine library gets each varietal to its perfect serving temperature with ease. If you have 15-20 minutes before you want to drink then this unit works great.

2 out of 5 stars Loud, slow, and not terribly effective at what you bought it for   June 24, 2008
Other than that, what's there to complain about?
The new version of the product has a plastic sleeve that gives a more accurate temperature reading but why care when it takes all day to chill the bottle of white? It is unbelievably noisy when operating and couldn't possibly be used any place you want to have a conversation. If you put your white wine in the refrigerator to bring it close to serving temp and then put it in the chiller it might work to your advantage (the unit won't be on very long) but this thing is not worth whatever you're going to pay for it. BTW, there's now a 2-bottle version. It doesn't work any better.

4 out of 5 stars Like it cold   February 29, 2008
We like the wine chiller as we no longer need to mess with bags of ice to have our white wines chilled throughout an entire evening. You can hear the fan as the chiller is working, but is quiet enough that a little soft music in the background or conversation covers any occasional "whir".

1 out of 5 stars Noisy Wine Cooler   February 8, 2008

I bought this with the idea of keeping a bottle of wine cool close at hand. Sort of an ice bucket next to the table without the mess of ice. It is so noisy that it was intrusive and I returned it.

4 out of 5 stars Patience, grasshopper, patience...   February 2, 2008

If you're expecting instantaneous results from the Waring Pro PC100 wine chiller/warmer, you will be disappointed. However, with prior planning and a little patience, this is a very rewarding machine.

The bottom line is that it does what it says it does. It chills or warms room temperature wine to its desirable temperature. What advertisements do not disclose is that it takes at least 15 minutes to bring a wine's temperature from 70F degrees to 64F, and at least 2 minutes per degree to continue lowering it (according to the cooling guide included in the instruction book; your results may vary). However, as you get into the lower temps, it requires more time per degree to cool it (as much as 5 min. per degree, once you get down to the 50s and 40s). Keep in my mind that "room temperature" varies, since people are different and keep their thermostats set at different temps. My point is that just as the old saying goes, "good things come to those who wait" and for those who make a little extra preparation. We store all our wines, red and white, in a wine fridge at about 55 degrees. I think this may be one of the reasons we have so much success with the PC100. It doesn't take as long to warm or cool, because it doesn't have very far to go. As other reviews have indicated, if you don't want to wait all night for your wine to reach the ideal temp, you should put it in the refrigerator or freezer for a time, depending on how cold you want it. If you bring home a 70F degree bottle of Sauvignon Blanc and pop it into the PC100, you're going to be waiting at least an hour and fifteen minutes for it to reach 45F degrees. You can substantially cut this time down by putting it in the freezer for 20 minutes.

I realize that, for $100, more or less, there shouldn't be all this extra work. I agree, but, let's face it, there's no perfect product (that's also affordable) out there. I mean, the Cooper cooler looks like a great product that works faster and is more versatile, but it shreads labels and hoses your bottle down like a car wash, which can get annoying. It's all about what makes you happy. The PC100 will take longer to cool or warm, but you get to keep and read your label (as I enjoy doing) and you don't have a mess, as no ice is involved. 1.5 L bottles won't fit in the PC100, but neither will they fit in the Cooper.

I guess the bottom line is that if you don't mind the wait and a little extra preparation and absolutely must have the perfect wine temperature, this is a great product. If it's really not that big of a deal, save your money, buy a fancy wine thermometer and have fun finding new and interesting ways to modulate your wine's temperature. I'm a gadget guy, and somewhat OCD, so I'm a big fan of the PC100.

When I was originally researching this product through these Amazon reviews, I was made very aware of the time issue, and despite some complaints, I took a gamble. I'm glad I bought the PC100, now, because my wife and I thoroughly enjoy it. It was a bit of a shock to me to discover the ideal temperature for my Merlot to be 63 degrees, which is considerably less than the temp at which I was accustomed to drinking it. Although it has taken some adjustment, I can now see why the lower temperature is, in many ways, better. The PC100 has helped me to enjoy my guilty pleasure even more.
