Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
Before you discard your carrot tops, potato peels, eggshells and coffee grounds, stop! Keep this Compost Pail handy and you can put those things and more to good use in the garden. Made of 18/8 polished stainless, it can sit on your counter or prep area and still look attractive. It also fits easily under a sink, too. The lid features holes for aeration and inside contains a charcoal filter to eliminate odor (replace filter every 3-6 months). It's a great way to recycle and turn your green thumb even greener. Pail holds 1-gallon of compost.

5 out of 5 stars Solid, Stylish, Hefty   October 8, 2008
I find this compost pail to be well-suited for everyday use. The metal is thicker than the picture tends to indicate, and the handle is sturdy. The top has more of a plug shape than a lid shape so the pail is easy to cover and uncover with one hand. The screws holding the handle on are #2 Phillips screws and are quite strong and tight on my pail. The gallon size will take my two adult household a week or more to fill up. As others have suggested, a biodegradable trash bag may be a good addition to cut down on cleaning. A little on the expensive side for a counter top miniature trash can, but it beats the mixing bowl with a plate for a lid I was using.

2 out of 5 stars why so cheap - this is why   June 18, 2008

the devil is in the details
- made in red china (saves you cash, slowly ruins the dollar)
- made of 18/8 stainless steel (good, but NOT the best)
- has holes to permit rapid BREEDING of fruit-flies (enjoy!)

Why O why should a mfr be SO CHEAP as to opt for 18/8 stainless
instead of the much better 18/10 stainless steel. It figures:
they stoop to having the stuff made in officially atheist red
China, and you wonder why they should withhold spending extra
money on selecting 18/10 S/S (instead of the inferior 18/8)?

18/10 stainless KILLS ODORS (when wet) without help, so (of
all types of products) a composting wastepail SHOULD logically
HAVE a built-in way to control smells. But nooooo...

One additional negative comment: "Stainless" does not mean
RUST-FREE. It means stain-LESS (not -proof). Semantics?

5 out of 5 stars No Smell!   May 8, 2008
I've been waiting on my compost hoop to arrive, and in the mean time have been throwing produce scraps into this pail. It's been 2 weeks and there is absolutely no smell. Great product.

5 out of 5 stars Perfect Pail   February 18, 2008

Attractive pail that you don't have to hide. I have mine right on the counter where I do my food prep. So convenient and nice to look at. It's a generous gallon size, I empty it about every fourth or fifth day. I line it with plastic bags (saved veggie bags from the supermarket) so I don't have to wash the pail out every time I empty it; instead of taking the pail outside, I just grab the plastic bag full of scraps, this really works for me. I had no problems with the screws coming loose like the other reviewer but I did check if they were tight, which they were, I guess it is a good idea to check them once in a while. Great product that I would recommend, much better than a plastic or ceramic one, which could break. Buy extra filters to have on hand since you can only find them online.

2 out of 5 stars Too small and loose screws   November 30, 2007

This is a nice looking item but its use should depend on the volume of organic matter you produce and frequency of use.
If you cook and compost everyday or maybe even every other day, you wont need the charcoal filters because the smells will not have time to be generated. Also daily use caused screws to be loose, both handle screws and also the one on top of the lid (No locking washers!) and I lost 2 of them in the large outside bin. These screws seem impossible to replace. So it looks good, but not really practical. I use it as a nice, expensive can, lined with a plastic bag.
