5 out of 5 stars Beautiful!   November 9, 2008
I am reviewing these because I was SHOCKED by the one-star reviews. I could see some 4-stars (I will address the rust issue) but there is some real vitriol here that I don't think is warranted.

I bought this set about 1.5 years ago. It is beautiful and washes wonderfully without rust spots. I should note that they will get rust spots (like all other stainless steel utensils and pots and pans and knives) if you use lemon detergent, use too much detergent, and/or pack the silver too tightly. I try to only pack 2-3 pieces per compartment and haven't gotten rust spots. I also like to use the "heated" drying cycle on the dishwasher and it seems to work. Also, don't wash them in a "heavy duty" cycle.

I love the design, it's modern, no hard edges (I agree with the other poster, she MUST have gotten fakes), and it's symmetrical (I'm a lefty, so "righty" (anything unsymmetrical) utensils are awkward). I've received compliments from multiple guests because they feel quite expensive (heavier utensils are a sign of quality--go to a diner if you want paperweight forks). The handles themselves are well-balanced and easy to use if you hold a fork properly. If they fall off of your plate, I suggest re-positioning them closer to the center of the plate.

1 out of 5 stars Rust spots after first wash! Absolute disappointment.   September 21, 2008

I purchased this flatware after an exhaustive search for new everyday stainless. Many of the reviews posted referred to the nice weight and simple styling of the design. All true. However, I should have paid more attention to the couple of reviews discussing rust spots. After the very first wash every grooved piece (forks and knives) were covered in ugly orange rust spots. These were washed in a two year old Fisher & Paykel dishwasher with powder detergent arranged as specified in the manufacturer's care instructions. I spent over an hour using stainless polish to try to remove the spots (it is impossible to remove them completely) and then rewashed only to have the exact same result. These went back pronto! It was a real disappointment from a brand like Oneida. It is clear that there was a defect in the manufacturing process.

1 out of 5 stars Extreme disappointment   June 8, 2008

We received this item for our wedding registry, and we immediately want to return it. The picture may make it look nice, but don't be fooled. The minute we took it out of the box, we wanted to throw it out of the window. This silverware is cheap, machine punched out chinese garbage. The back edge of the handles has a sharp edge and is uneven. It is very overpriced, very misleading, please don't buy this product, you won't be happy.

3 out of 5 stars perhaps too much product   March 24, 2008
Purchased this set on a whim in December 07 to replace 35 year old stainless.
It is sturdy and very heavy duty. I only handwash, will not put in dishwasher. Shiny finish, no defects in this set, perfect for everyday hard use. Got it at BBand B at a sale price so just bought it since I was exhausted from looking at all the different styles at 4 different stores. It is 18/10 grade steel.
However, the dinner forks and knives fall out off plates and out of bowls..not very well balanced. The knives are perfect, however, for spreading any kind of topping on sandwiches. But the flatware is too long and heavy for luncheon entertaining. The pieces overwhelm delicate plates, cups etc.
So today I purchased Haenkel's OPUS 45 piece set..also 18/10 and simply
" sweet".. perfect for entertaining, very well balanced, and shorter than
Oneida's Icarus. The Opus knives are very narrow, though, and are not near as good for making sandwiches. So Opus for entertaining and Icarus for every day.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent quality... beautiful..   April 26, 2007
Purchased this from BBandB when I decided to host my very first Thanksgiving dinner. I went all out with new dining table, table linens and flatware.

I was looking for something simple, elegant and not too flashy or "old school". This was the perfect set. It has very simple lines allowing you to use them casually everyday. The set came with 45 pieces. So, I used 4 sets everyday and save the other 4 sets for special occassions. The design affords me this flexibility in using these for both kinds of occassions.

In far as quality, I can't complain. It's very well made. You never get the feeling that it's going to bend scooping out ice cream. It also has very substantial weight to it (probably more so than any other set I've seen at BBandB).
