Naturally enduring both climate and time, pine trees are are seen as a symbols of longevity in China. Resilient in adverse conditions and showing the evergreen color of growth in the dead of winter, the pine tree holds an honored position in China's cultural landscape. The style of painting on the side of this rice bowl set is typical of Chinese arts, particularly in the tradition of ink and brush painting. The tree takes an elongated form, spanning around the bowl in a horizontal path. This is actually common in Chinese art as the artist intends to create a parallel to images of a dragon. The meandering trunk is like a dragon's body, while the tufts of needles make a cloud like form. The result is something that almost mimics a dragon in the clouds. Both the bowl and spoon in our set are painted with images of pine trees in this classical motif. This is a very typical dinning set in China. It fits in the palm of the hand and is perfect for rice, noodles or soups. Made of porcelain the set is dishwasher and microwave safe.
