Editorial Reviews:

Amazon.com Review
Sometimes elegance is found in the simplest design, such as the Velvet corkscrew from Metrokane. Living up to its name, the self-pulling corkscrew not only removes corks from wine bottles with velvety smoothness, but feels soft to the touch, thanks to the rubberized grip. The continuous-turn mechanism means you just keep twisting the top and the Teflon-coated screw glides into the cork and pulls it right out of the bottle with ease. Turn the other direction, and the cork is pushed off the spiral. A foil cutter is integrated into the corkscrew, and a notch in the sides allows it to fit perfectly over the top of any bottle for secure positioning. An excellent gift for the wine lover in your life, the Velvet is covered by a lifetime warranty. --Ann Bieri

Product Description
Pocket model corkscrews are traditionally carried by waitstaff, but they are also great for picnics, vacations, and small apartments where every inch of storage counts.

4 out of 5 stars Corkscrew works great!   July 21, 2008

This product works great. I have tried a couple of other corkscrews that just don't seem to be as easy as this one. Simply put it on the bottle, turn the handle, cork is gone, no effort needed.

3 out of 5 stars Does the job, but you have to hold the corkscrew tightly   May 4, 2008

It's a simple product, and it works. But you really have to squeeze the body of the corkscrew tight so it stays onto the bottle. It took me a few try's to get a system, but it's fine. It's just a little difficult when others use it and then need some assistance. It's like a quick wine opening class with the victim...

5 out of 5 stars Simple and smooth to use.   April 9, 2008

There are MANY different functional designs for corkscrews. The last design we used had two gear handles on the side, and an oval handle at the top. It worked OK, until the main screw snapped, after 5 years and probably 50 corks. But the screw travel distance was never enough to pull the cork all the way out. This Metrocane model ... just works. The big handle is easier to turn than the last, and you just keep turning while squeezing the lower half against the bottle-neck, and the cork walks right out - all the way ! Easy-peezy. It may not be quite as fast as those $100+ models, but for home use, and a few bottles at a time, it's a pleasure to use. And with the bigger handle, it takes less hand strength to operate.

4 out of 5 stars Simple and Efficient   February 11, 2008

The Metrokane Velvet Corkscrew has few moving parts and appears to be very sound. The dependability of your cork pulling device is crucial to the satisfaction of wine drinking, so the lack of complex breakable parts is an asset.

4 out of 5 stars Great Corkscew For The Money   September 22, 2007
This is a very nice corkscrew for the money. It removes the cork effortlessly every time.
