Editorial Reviews:

Amazon.com Review
Creating up to 1-1/2 quarts of ice cream, frozen yogurt, sorbet, or frozen drinks at home takes only about 20 minutes with this electric appliance, and salt and ice are not needed. After the machine's chilling chamber has been in the freezer for about eight hours the liquid between its walls is thoroughly frozen. The chamber then goes atop the power base, the unit's paddle goes into the chamber, the transparent top is locked in place, and the machine is turned on. Ingredients go into the chamber through an opening in the top as the paddle turns. The chamber chills the ingredients to whatever consistency is desired--though dense treats are hard to make because the paddle churns in air.

Chocolate chips, chopped fruit, nuts, and other special ingredients can be added toward the end. The chamber is nonstick for easy cleanup. Storing it in the freezer ensures a frozen confection is only 20 to 40 minutes away when the mood strikes. The machine measures 10 inches in diameter and 15 inches high and weighs 9-1/2 pounds. It carries a 90-day warranty. A detailed instruction booklet including many recipes is included. --Fred Brack

Editor's note: This is a reconditioned small appliance. Reconditioned generally means that the appliance has been returned to the manufacturer, who returns the appliance to like-new condition. Some appliances may contain cosmetic blemishes.

5 out of 5 stars Simple machine, great job   July 19, 2008
I'm really happy with my new Cuisinart ice cream maker. How much simpler than so many of the expensive, complicated ice cream machines! I put the bowl in the deep freeze overnight and mixed the ingredients and refrigerated them overnight. I assembled it as instructed and in twenty minutes had a lovely frozen dessert. I was a little surprised that the bowl rotates and the scraper does not. But it works like a charm and cleanup is easy. I also tried putting the bowl in the freezer part of the refrigerator and that worked fine as well. I've been using recipes with low dairy fat content and even these work well. A real winner.

4 out of 5 stars Great for that homeade icecream taste!   July 12, 2008
Good points
-once you freeze the bowl correctly- the ice cream will have a firm enough texture to eat right away (it's the consistency of soft serve)-
-the recipes they give you make great ice cream and there's lots of variety
-it really only takes 20-30 mins per batch and it's not too messy
-ice cream you make at home always tastes better than what's in the store!
Bad points
-it IS noisy
-you MUST freeze the bowl completely
-once you're done making icecream, the bowl is difficult to clean b/c it freezes the water as you're drying it out (it's supposed to be completely dry when u put it back in the freezer but this is impossible unless u let it sit and defrost- making it longer inbetween times u can make ice cream)
- you cannot put too many or too big of chunks of goodies (cookies candy etc) in the machine. it won't rotate correctly- just add them after

all in all not bad! we've saved money by not buying store ice-cream AND i can make lower in fat versions easily

5 out of 5 stars Yum Yum in your Tum Tum   June 30, 2008
This product is great. I was a little nervous about ordering a factory refurb, but after reading the reviews on others who have gone the way of purchasing the refurbs I went for it. I am so glad I did. The machine was shipped and packaged beautifully, no way to tell this item from a brand new one. It works great, and my kids and I love making ice cream. One thing, be sure to follow the recipe for volume, or you will have some of the mix creeping out of the top. But it is an easy clean-up. Keep your bowl in the freezer and you can whip up some ice cream at any time.

4 out of 5 stars nice so far   June 25, 2008
I just ordered this ice cream maker because I am on a diet including dairy and fruits; I thought I'd make sorbets. I have used this machine twice and it works well. I will say my only grumble is the ingredients freeze to the sides of the bowl and leave a frozen ring around the inside which is difficult to remove without unfreezing. Since my diet involves measuring amounts, this makes some difficulty for me. That said, I did enjoy the finished products, and I haven't seen the troubles other people reported about "too soft" mixtures. I use cold ingredients which probably helps. Both my ice milk and fruit sorbet were delicious. Lastly, I bought a reconditioned unit, and it looks and performs perfectly.

5 out of 5 stars Still working great   June 23, 2008
I love this! My kids really enjoy making and watching the ice cream freeze. Have had it for years and no problems. I keep the bowl frozen so it is ready for use whenever we want. Love the cord storage too, wish more appliances had that.
