Editorial Reviews:

Amazon.com Review
When the aroma of freshly brewed coffee--from freshly ground beans--wafts into your bedroom in the morning, you won't need your alarm clock. Preset this coffeemaker for your desired wake-up time, add coffee beans to the grinder, and in the morning the beans are ground to a medium grind and hot coffee awaits in the 10-cup stainless steel, double-wall insulated thermal carafe. You can also program the machine to start brewing at the end of a dinner party to avoid having to get up from the table, or to have hot coffee waiting after a brisk winter walk. When making fewer than five cups of coffee, use the 1-to-4-cups setting to improve extraction and heat; coffeemakers without this setting often lack the time to heat up properly, and coffee comes out cooler. A disposable charcoal filter removes chlorine and odors from tap water, improving coffee flavor, and should be changed every few months. Other features include a gold-tone commercial-style filter (or use No. 4 basket-style paper filters); capacity to use preground coffee instead of beans; 30-second Brew Pause, which allows a cup be poured before brewing is complete; and an audible tone to indicate the pot is ready. The grinder removes for easy cleaning, and all removable parts can be washed safely in the upper rack of a dishwasher. The Cuisinart Grind and Brew measures 15 by 8 by 7-1/2 inches, and comes with a three-year warranty. --Ann Bieri

3 out of 5 stars Nice unit, but doesn't make good coffee   October 10, 2008
As a coffee lover, I was really excited about this unit because of the built in coffee grinder that you can set with the timer. You have the option of griding whole beens or using pre-ground beans with this unit. It has some great features: thermal carafe, extra heat for 1-4 brewing, timer, pieces that are easy to remove and wash. This coffee maker has everything I want except for one thing: quality coffee. My coffee always comes out weak. I have to put a lot more coffee in it to make it taste good. After reading the other reviews here, I have to address a 2 things:
1) Coffee pours slowly: The thermal pot is insulated and the lid seals tightly to keep the heat in. Of course it's not going to have a large spout where you can pour quickly. There's no heat plate to burn the coffee. This is the whole point of having a thermal carafe. This compliant is not valid. So you have to tilt the carafe more, at least you don't get burnt coffee. Pre-heating isn't neccesary if you drink it within 2 hours or so.
2) Messy to clean up: The parts come apart very easily. It doesn't get any easier. What do you expect exactly with a unit that grinds AND brews? All you do is pull out the grinder part and rinse it. Then pop open the filter and rinse that off too. It's not hard, really.

Summary: Very nice looking and functional unit that does it all. But coffee comes out weak. Find a better machine.

1 out of 5 stars Terrible coffeemaker - skip this one!   October 9, 2008
This coffeemaker is awful but you won't know it until you read the manual inside. It clearly states that you must clean and dry the coffeemaker "after every use". Who wants that? You can't even get to where the coffee and steam build up the gunk. Even the first coldwater brew after the decalcification process spilled out onto my floor and all over the counter. The Macy's people wouldn't take it back, the Cuisinart people said they can only offer me 20% off a new same item (super idea! same crappy product!) from them and now I'm stuck with this DEFECTIVE coffeemaker. I haven't done anything to it except make coffee as a normal person would, I even went above and beyond to de-calcify it as they say and yet, NOTHING WORKS! DO NOT buy this item! It's more work than it's worth. I'm off to buy your standard programmable coffeemaker because that makes much more sense for $50 versus the over $200 paid for this piece of junk.

4 out of 5 stars Good coffee, bad cleanup.   October 8, 2008
There seems to be a theme in this reviews!

Yes, it is good coffee, and I love being able to set the grinding to happen the night before. There are no heating coils for the carafe, but the coffee will stay hot enough to drink for several hours - and it'll still taste good!

But it is loud in the morning, and I can hear it all the way upstairs. In addition, the cleaning is a pain - so much so that some mornings I choose to go out for coffee instead of having to deal with the cleanup.

Generally, I'm happy with my purchase. My next coffee maker will be a separate maker and grinder, though.

1 out of 5 stars Cuisinart Grind & Brew - Great Looks - Lousy Production   September 25, 2008
I was thrilled with our Cuisinart DGB-600BC stainless steel, thermal grind and brew when we took it out of the box on June 18th of this year. The coffee tasted great, loved using my own beans, and as many have said, the thermal carafe is slow pouring, but no more over-cooked coffee. Yaaay! I can even live with the jet-engine take off when grinding.

But now, here I sit, with a lesser cup, made in our old, steady GE coffee burner retrieved from our give-away heap, and two coffee machines on the counter, and it is September 25 -- a mere 3 months since starting to use the Cuisinart. It simply won't brew and shuts off before I even check to see if there is coffee ready. We haven't ground any in months, due to the time required to make sure the bean hopper is nice and dry (it won't brew without it installed, and then gets steamy creating ground mush that won't flow to the basket.)So even functioning as a regular pre-ground machine, it has problems. We have removed the water filter, detailed the interior like a used Porsche, run CLR through it --- no coffee. Apparently, the problem is more serious and beyond our capabilities to fix it. It was a gift, so no return option, even if Cuisinart had a reputation for good service, which they don't.

So, in the end, if you are looking for an over-priced, disposable coffee maker -- this is it. If you expect performance over a few years, as we do -- buy something else.

5 out of 5 stars Love it!   September 22, 2008
I absolutely love this product. From the very first pot we have had great coffee. No problems with grinding or brewing, and I have no problem cleaning the parts after each use. I did it with my regular coffee brewer and separate grinder so it isn't anymore work. I highly recommend this product to anyone who loves coffee!
