Each ceramic keeper features two parts: a base, into which cold water is poured; and a bell, into which softened butter is patted. When the bell is turned upside down in the base, the cold water creates a seal that prevents air from reaching the butter and souring it. No refrigeration is required. I had never heard of these till I saw it reviewed on Amazon, and I will never be with out one from now on!
Works great, it can get very hot up here and butter, if left out never lasts the day, with this it stays soft and lasts forever. I just wish they had better instructions for using it.
It was trial and error for us, but once we figured it out... All smiles!

Great idea but the capacity was only 1 tablespoon, which doesn't warrant use unless you really are a low fat diet person. Item was boxed carefully and shipped promptly.

In order to use up one stick of butter, you need 2 sets of these. I own the larger one, but in the summer I was having mold growing in spite of changing the water every 3 days. So now I keep one of these out of the refrigerator at a time and have no problems. They are cute, practical for us single dwellers, and will be useful for dinner parties.
