5 out of 5 stars Simply Amazing!   March 3, 2008

I love Corning Visions cookware because it is very versatile. It can be used in all of the places in your kitchen - you don't need to keep using extra dishes. They can be use on the stove top, in the oven, in the microwave, in the refrigerator or in the freezer. You can cook your meals in them and actually see them cooking in without having to open a lid to check. This is great because you can see all the way to the bottom to make sure the food is cooking evenly and not burning or scorching, etc..

And this cookware is so beautiful you can serve it in them, and then put any leftovers in the refrigerator or freezer right in the pot or pan!
This is because they are not just made out of glass, but a unique glass/ceramic mixture that is highly heat resistant. You can't do that with other glassware and you can't use metal pots in the microwave or oven.

Another awesome thing about them is that since they are glassware, you don't have to worry about metallic compounds leeching into your food like from metallic pots. Also, it never stains. And because it's glassware, it transmits the heat more efficiently, so you can cook at about 25 degrees less than you would in metal.

A neat and interesting fact: In the original commercial for Corning Visions, they took an aluminum saucepan and melted it in a Corning Visions Saucepan at over 1560 degrees F to show the incredible temperatures this cookware can withstand! Pretty awesome (though I wouldn't recommend trying this at home!) :)

Even though this glass is highly resistant to thermal shock, there exists a possibility that it can break or shatter if it is handled improperly. There are some simple things you can do to help make sure your Corning Visions last. Some of them are:

1). When you use a Visions pot/pan on the stove, make sure to place it
on the cold burner and turn on the burner - don't put a cold
visions pot/pan on a hot burner. This allows the glass to expand
slowly as the burner heats-up instead of [too] rapidly.

2). When you use them in the oven, make sure you allow your oven to
preheat to the desired temperature first and then place it in the
oven. The reason for this is that the if you put the visions on
a rack that too close to the heating element, the potential for
thermal shock and damage to the glass exists.

3). When you take a Hot Visions pot/pan off of the stove or out of the
oven, place it on a dry towel or pot holders - avoid placing it
directly on a cold surface like cold burners or the kitchen
counter - this could cause the glass to contract too rapidly.

4). If you chip or crack a Visions item, you should not use it anymore.
A chip or crack is a weak spot and could break/expand when heated
and/or cooled.

** These are simple rules that make sense, and are not hard to follow. And once you get into these habits, it's completely second-nature.

5 out of 5 stars Terrific Item   February 19, 2008
We purchased 2 of these saucepans and enjoy cooking with them. Easy clean up. We have the 2 other saucepans (with lids) which we have had for over 16 years. One note: avoid hard water and hot dishwashing cycles - causes "etching" and other damage to glass items.

5 out of 5 stars Cookware that will last forever!   December 16, 2007

My very first (and only) cookware set is a 5-piece Visions set comprised of 3 sauce pans, 2.3-quart pot, and a large dutch oven (all with lids). I bought the set 15 years ago when I moved into my first apartment and it still looks brand new today. Any scorch marks are easily removed with a brillo pad--not that I burn food that often. :-)

I hate cooking and thus I am not so delicate with my cookware. My motto is "Cook as fast as possible to get out of the kitchen as fast as possible." That's the great thing about glass cookware: it doesn't scuff, scratch or mark like metal does. Break or chip, maybe. But if I haven't broken or chipped a piece the way I bang mine around during storage and use, or during any of my 5 house moves, believe you won't either.

I came here to buy a Visions set for my parents for Christmas. Unfortunately, I just read in the description that Visions should not be used with glass cooktop stoves, which they own. Though, at these prices I would pass on buying a new set anyway. $70 for one saucepan or $130 for the dutch oven is ridiculous. The color may be gold but it isn't made out of it. LOL!

I suppose prices are high now because glass isn't popular as it used to be. Pity because Visions used to be fairly cheap. Discount stores like K-Mart and Ames used to sell it. I know I didn't pay more than $40 for my entire set. At that time glass sets were usually cheaper than most metal sets, if I recall correctly. Being right out of college, I went for the cheapest. Someday I may gravitate to using a glass cooktop but I'll still keep my Visions cookware for posterity. Selling at these high prices now, my set just became a heirloom. :-)

Well, if you don't have a glass cooktop; you want cookware that will last forever; and, you don't mind paying $70 for a saucepan. Then you will not be disappointed with Visions.

Corning ware is a superb line of cookware and can be difficult to find. The 2.6 quart saucepan was the closest size available to one that had broken, and we are thrilled to have it. It does exactly what the manufacturer promises.

I am so happy and grateful that I was able to find the Visions pots on Amazon. I have been looking for years for a new set of glass pots in case something would happen to mine. Now I have spares, just in case. For the life of me I don't understand why Visions is not selling them like they used to in Target or other stores. It is a wonderful product and beats anything else on the market. Why stop making such great pots?
