An elaborate and detailed hand-etched pattern of flowers, foliage and traditional designs has been applied to the six coaster tops and the container's exterior. The vibrant patterns of red, pink, green, blue and gold are all created from natural pigments. The shiny black base is produced through the application of seven layers of lacquer followed by a two-month drying process, resulting in its rich luster. Northern Thai lacquerware is well known to interior designers worldwide, and is acclaimed for some of the globe's finest craftsmanship techniques. Lacquerware is created by applying the black resin of the "Lak" tree onto smoothly carved wood to give it a glossy finish.
