5 out of 5 stars Nice product! Worth the money spent.....   September 8, 2008
Before I purchased this grill I went and looked for reviews which I always do before making any purchases. I found that the reviews listed here in AMAZON is very reliable and unbiased. So here I am writing my own review for this Weber gas grill. I wanted to say that this grill is well worth your money. I was first hesitant to purchase this grill due to its steep price tag. But after looking at the reviews and comparing the pros ad cons I decided to go for it. I placed the order through AMAZON website and after 3-4 days I received a call from a local shipping company to a schedule a delivery. I was not home the day it was delivered but I'd say it was delivered properly. What I like about this grill is the even heat distribution throughout the cooking grates. The food is cook evenly without burning one side of the meat. However I'd say that the stainless steel burner cover may need a thicker steel due to high heat coming out from the burner itself. Weber probably need to work on this for the next model. Overall I am happy with my purchase and I would recommend this grill.

***By the way I normally don't write up reviews but I feel that this grill is worth taking time to recommend to someone else.***

2 out of 5 stars Poorly Engineered Grease Pan   August 14, 2008
2 out of 2 found this review helpful

At first I loved this grill. Almost as substantial as the Summit but hundreds of dollars less made this grill perfect for my budget.

What I haven't liked about the grill is that the grease pan has a long slope across the entire width of the grill. The grease is supposed to travel down this slope to drain into a collection pan. But if you are cooking food above the propane tank (where the pan is really close to the flames so it can clear the tank), the grease has so far to travel that it usually dries up in the middle and never makes it to the collection pan. Clean up is a pain which can lead to...

...a major grease fire like the one I had last week. My grill got so hot the thermostat couldn't measure the temp anymore -- well over 1000 degrees. I had flames shooting out the sides and the vents in back, even after the propane was turned off. I don't know how hot those propane tanks can get, but I think I'm lucky mine didn't explode. I had to grab a fire extinguisher to put the flames out. My flavorizer bars and grease pan were ruined. I've never had a fire get out of hand like that in 20 years of grilling.

I'd really recommend getting a different grill with a better pan for collecting the grease.

Update: I thought Weber had a reputation for excellent customer service. I decided to contect them by the e-mail on their Web site, but have not even gotten an acknowledgment.

5 out of 5 stars Another winner from Webber   July 31, 2008
After having an original, black Webber Genesis for 19 years, albeit with a few new grills and flavorizor bars from HomeDepot along the way, it was looking pretty shabby. Finally, time to upgrade, although this meant that my family would no longer be too embarassed by the old Webber to invite anyone over, still it was the right choice and once again friends and family grace our deck and smile at the new shiny grill while munching food grilled to absolute perfection.

Since I learned how to grill steaks to perfection using the Webber HHH then MOM technique, I did not want to start over with another grill brand.

The solid s/s grills themselves are very nice, strong, easy to scrape and brush clean w/o ceramic to deal with. The overall look of s/s is very upscale w/o getting into the thousands of $ with Viking, Wolf, etc. Who needs an infared element? Well, not me anyhow.

I could not be happier about how the grill works, looks, has some storage w/doors under the grill, and cleans-up after use.

Here are some things to know in advance (as you still buy this grill anyway.)

1) The side burner model vs. the no side burner model. I would probably buy the model w/o it if I had to replace the unit today. It works great, but I don't use it much. I suppose that if the grill was far from the kitchen (where it is usually easier to steam corn - or whatever - it would be valuable enough to justify the +$50. But what I really don't like is that the s/s flip-up cover for the side burner, though sturdy enough so far, gives me pause about putting anything more than a couple of pounds on it out of concern that it will bend or otherwise distort. Remember my life expectancy for a Webber is officially 19 years.

2) This time, I bought the Webber cover. It has a section of mesh directly above each of the side extensions (i.e., one over the right side w/the three controls and one over the left side w/the side burner.) Why I would prefer to have rain water get into my grill when I paid +$50 for a rain cover is a mystery to me. I understand that some ventalation is desirable, but still. I didn't see any flaps or covers for the mesh; I may take matters into my own hands.

3) The catch pan underneath the grill, where the cooking drippings fall through the grill, keeps filling-up with rain water - with the aforementioned cover on or off. This is the most annoying thing about the grill because it is impossible to remove the catch pan w/o spilling some of the water, not to mention the ugly stuff that the pan is intended to catch, when removing it to empty. UUUUUGGGHHHH!

Back on the positive side, the ugly blue-tan-purple scorching mark at and above the handle area on the lower front of the splendid s/s lid was pretty easily removed with Cape Cod silver cleaner (wads of cotton impregnated with cleaner. These very unsightly scorched areas were caused when my son wanted to leave the grill on for a few minutes to burn off residue after he'd finished grilling. He forgot all about it and it burned through the night until the gas was depleated. In his defense, we were well into that evening's wine tasting by that time. So, some propane was wasted, but the Webber was not. Oh, and also, the house was not consumed in a fire ball, which I consider a plus. No scorching appears during normal use.

I'd buy it again - probably in about 19 years.

3 out of 5 stars Weber Genesis 320   July 12, 2008

I bought this grill as my first "stainless steel" grill. I was excited when the big box arrived. Of course, when I got it in my garage I had to put it together right away. It went together farily easily. The instructions were easy to follow and all of the hardware was there. Once I got it together I moved to the backyard. That was no easy task with the small diameter casters. They roll very nice on paved surfaces, but don't roll at all on grass. Strike one. The next strike comes from the fact that the "stainless steel" started showing signs of rust after the first rain. I was extremely dissapointed to see this. I wrote Weber about it and they only suggested a cleaner and offered their appology. My entire reason for buying a stainless grill was so I could leave it outside and not have it rust away in a couple of years. Strike three is the fact that are no good flat surfaces to set a plate on if you are using the side burner. The right side of the grill has the main burner controls which take up a good portion of what would be a nice place to set plates, etc.

On a good note, the grill lights easily, the grill cooks very nicely, and the grease tray works well.

Overall it's a decent grill just don't expect the "stainless" not to stain.

5 out of 5 stars Best Grill In This Price Range, Period!!!!   July 3, 2008

While I do agree with Michael B's observation that the instructions for assembly are horrible, it really isn't very difficult to assemble,.. it just takes a lot of time!!! An addition to that comment, We were very impressed by how well this grill is put together! Steel, aluminum and stainless steel!! Very nice!!

Also agree the handle gets pretty hot when left on 'high' for long periods of time, but the temperature is still well within acceptable ranges for your hands, .. just a bit uncomfortable. Don't know about the other models and if their handles are stainless like the S-320's.

ALWAYS preheat on HIGH for at least 15 minutes,..to get the Flavorizer Bars real hot!!, .. everything after that is AMAZING!!! WARNING - Your food will cook much quicker than you are used to on ANY other grill!!! Weber is famous for the efficiency of their grills!!!

Best even cooking grill ever owned and to top it all off,... best warranty for parts!!,.. 5, 10, or 25 years, yes, 25 YEARS, depending on the part!!! This thing is made solid, and in the USA, for those of you who care about that, and will last at a minimum 10 years, probably more like 15-20 years!

This is probably the best LOOKING, best COOKING, best MADE, best GRILL in this price range. I know some of you will be hard pressed to spend 700-900 buck for a grill with only 42000 btus,.. 36000 without the side burner,.. but trust me, and the people on this review site, this grill cooks better than cheaper grills with twice the btu's. It's not about the btu's, its about how efficient the grill is, and Weber's are VERY efficient!! Trust the reviews,.. buy this grill! Also, less btu's = less fuel used = less trips to replace the tank!!! You will LOVE this grill!! I DO!!!

We got the grill last Saturday and have cooked on it everyday since with fantastic results each and every time!!!

BEST 850 Bucks ever spent!!! BUY IT!!
