Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars emeril and wusthof   April 10, 2008
I love this knife (the 7"), it's one of the best I've ever used cuts really thin slices of just about anything with ease. It has a great feel to it (very light and controlable), the rubber grip is very comfortable and I always reach out for it when I start cutting.

I went ahead and bought the 8" chef's knife from the emerilware line, Im quite happy with it but I still think that this one is better. I also have an 89.99$ J.A. henckels 7" santoku that I use, but I still prefer this knife to all.

The only setback is that it needs sharpening quite often, I use the wusthof mini sharpener and it works like a charm.

The 3" is a bonus but I really don't use it that much.

Highly recommended.

5 out of 5 stars Great Knives   November 28, 2007
Best knives I have ever used. Nice and light weight, very sharp. I plan on buying more Wusthof knives in the future as they are very well made.

This set gives you a santoku, which is a small Asian-style slicing/chef knife with the characteristic hollows on the blade, and a small paring knife. They are made by Wuesthof, a German firm that makes top grade chefs' cutlery.

The santoku is nicely weighted and works well for tasks like chopping herbs, slicing and dicing. The hollows on the blade are designed to allow air to release what you are slicing from the blade surface. It has a flat edge, meaning there is no point sticking up when you have the edge lined up with the cutting board.

The paring knife looks cheap and lightweight, but it is NO lightweight. It has a very thin blade compared to the usual utility/paring knives in chefs' sets but the small blade dives into cucumber peels, makes short work of trimming and garnishing. I find I reach for this knife more often than my usual paring knife.

I am no fan of cheap cutlery. My steak knives are from my grandmother's set and are still fantastic and my own chef's set is probably 30 years old. I rarely buy knives (in the last 30 years; a bread knife, a cleaver are all I added to the standard set.) I was surprised how much I liked these knives and how well they complimented my current workhorse set.

Whether or not you adore Emeril as a chef, you can certainly admire this set of knives, and unless you have a superstition about a gift of knives, this makes a wonderful housewarming present, wedding present or anything for your favorite cook.
