Amazon.com Review
Most of the Henckels lines--including the popular Four Star series--feature blades made of Friodur, a special ice-hardened, no-stain steel created and patented by the company in 1939. This special formula was designed for exceptional hardness and high resistance to corrosion. The blades on these steak knives are slim and narrow to facilitate even, precise meat cutting and flexible enough to allow thin slicing. The ergonomically designed polypropylene handles--like that of all the products in the Four-Star line--are designed to balance perfectly in the hand.

Founded in 1731, the J.A. Henckels company is not only one of the world's oldest cutlery manufacturers, it's also one of the most well-respected, creating best-selling knives guaranteed to last a lifetime. --Kim Harwell

1 out of 5 stars So disappointed in Henckels   July 18, 2006

I have owned and enjoyed and recommended Henckels knives for years; naturally, when I needed high quality steak knives, I went to them first. I have owned this set for less than 6 months. Tonight while merely cutting a pork chop, the blade that I was using snapped right through the steel, near the handle. There was no unusual force being applied; just an ordinary cut through tender meat.

I have had this happen with lesser knives, but never expected it with this set. I had read a review speaking of this problem at the time I ordered my steak knives but decided to disregard it and go with my experience. I hope you will listen and not waste your hard earned money.

Awesome product! We already own this set and bought 8 more for use by our guests. We owned our first set for 12 yrs and experienced great ease in cutting steaks. Periodically we sharpen the knives and we've even cleaned them in the dishwasher with no problems. I believe buying this set at this price coupled with Amazon's shipping rates, is an outstanding deal. You can not even buy this set off the shelf in Germany for this price. I know because I lived there for over 10 years and could shop on the US bases and on the economy. Enjoy your steaks!

1 out of 5 stars They look nice and cut well but 2 of 4 broke   June 17, 2005

after just 7 months. So be aware that you might buy into some hassle by exchanging the knifes with Henckels. I am very dissappointed and will not spend that much money ($80) on knifes ever again, at least not on Henckels. My K-mart knifes hold up better.

The cost of these knives probably puts them out of reach for the average household (who wants to spend $35 a piece for a steak knife for company to scratch against stoneware plates?), but if you want top-of-the-line knives that cut through anything, hold their edge, and feel sturdy in your hand, give these knives a second look. They compare favorably to the other more expensive Henckels, as well as the pricey Wusthof lines.

5 out of 5 stars Wonderful steak knives   June 22, 2000

These are wonderful knives. They cut the meat as easily as a case knife going through butter. I am very happy with this product and plan to purchase more.
