Amazon.com Review
Fully forged from single pieces of German high-carbon stainless steel, the four kitchen knives in this set provide a cook with all the essential blades. The knives are an 8-inch chef's knife with a broad, curved blade for rocking through a chopping or mincing task as well as for all-purpose cutting; a 6-inch utility knife for making sandwiches, slicing meats, vegetables, and large fruits, and peeling melons; a 5-inch boning knife with a short, narrow blade and pointed tip for removing bones from poultry and meats neatly and safely; and a 4-1/2-inch paring knife for cleaning, peeling, and cutting fruits and vegetables. The blades are tapered from spine to edge and from heel to tip, with bolsters providing balance and safety. Additional balance and strength come from full tangs running through the handles, which are formed of hygienic, fiberglass-reinforced poly that won't crack, split, or chip and are attached to the tangs with the traditional three rivets.

Rounding out the set are a 10-inch steel for keeping the knife blades aligned and an 11-slot block made of maple that stores all four knives as well as the steel and that has extra slots for other knives and for kitchen shears. Everything carries a lifetime warranty against defects. --Fred Brack

5 out of 5 stars Great set and excellent value   August 7, 2006

I think these compare pretty well to my parents pricier Henckels and so represent a great value.

Purchased my set 5 months ago for well under a hundred bucks and I'm very pleased with them. Has pretty much all the knives a basic kitchen needs. Very solid forged construction looks like it should get the job done for a long time.

Unless you have money to burn or are a professional, I think this set will work nicely. The block has enough room to add a couple more knives down the road if you like.

4 out of 5 stars For the money, great set.   January 20, 2006

The forged German Steel blades are great, so who cares if the knife is assembled in China. My only complaint is the 8" chefs knife blade is really thick and not very sharp. I also have the 8" chefs knife from the contemporary line and it is so much better, it is hard to believe since they are basically the same knife with different handles. I paid almost half the current price so it was a steal, but at less than $100 for the set, you can't go wrong. These are much better than stamped steel knives selling for the same price or more.

4 out of 5 stars These high quality knives are made in China!   October 18, 2004

These are high quality forged knives. Sould have been 5 stars but 1 star was deducted for misleading customers- they are NOT made in Germany.

I have used this set for seven summers of cooking at summer language villages, and have never been disappointed. These are good knives; the blade is of great quality and keeps its edge for longer than you might expect. I have seen these knives get a lot of hard wear from the workers in my kitchen, and have had to use them in the same manner myself. They hold up excellently and are dependable for big food prep needs. Now I just need to get a set for my home. As with anything, you need to know your tools and keep them in repair (with sharpening on regular basis, etc.)
