Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
Many foods taste better with a good glass of wine. Some studies indicate that a glass of wine may offer some therapeutic qualities. For intimate social occasions, a popular adage is "Candy is dandy but liquor is quicker". Either way, from early biblical times, wine played a significant role in life. In tightly corked bottles, this beverage for all seasons remains locked. Open that bottle of chardonnay or merlot with ease and style with the OXO GOOD GRIPS Winged Corkscrew. Shorter wings and a longer body leave ample room for gripping the non-slip bottom collar and seating the Corkscrew on top of a wine bottle. Turn the soft knob to lower the non-stick coated worm into the cork. For added convenience, a stopper prevents the worm from traveling too far and breaking the cork. Press down on the sturdy, broad, die cast zinc wings to release the cork from the bottle. Just turn the knob counterclockwise to release the cork.

1 out of 5 stars Design Failure   May 11, 2008
The corkscrew slid out of the handle the very first time I used it. It appeared to only be glued in. Not at all what I expect from Oxo.

1 out of 5 stars Hidden design defect.   April 13, 2008
The corkscrew worked really well for a very short time. But because the connection between the screw and the top section is so weak, it failed after about the 10th bottle (and it was not abused). Some samples should last longer, but the design is so weak that failure is probably inevitable. Too bad - it was nice while it lasted.

1 out of 5 stars Lethal flaw   January 21, 2008
As with previous reviewer, used this only 5-6 times before the spiral broke in the middle while screwing it into a cork (actually the soft plastic stopper now used by a major California winery).

1 out of 5 stars Cheap piece of junk   June 9, 2007
Sad to say, but the same thing happened to me as the previous reviewer. The screw part just came off in a cork after only a couple months of use and wouldn't go back in. I've never had a corkscrew this flimsy. We have a vintage one that still works. I haven't had this kind of problem with any of my other OXO kitchen tools.

3 out of 5 stars OXO Corkscrew   January 4, 2007
We love OXO brand kitchen accessories. We probably used this corkscrew a total of six times, when it broke! The screw broke off, and it couldn't be fixed. Since it was over the 30 days since we purchased it from Amazon, we went directly to the OXO company for a replacement. After we sent the broken corkscrew to them, they replaced it with a new one within a couple of weeks. We can't complain, and we will continue to purchase the OXO brand products.
