5 out of 5 stars World's best - Exquisite attention to detail   December 9, 2007

Bicycling enthusiasts worldwide are well aware of the creative genius of Tullio Campagnolo, who invented the quick-release for bicycle wheels and designed the first cable-operated parallelogram derailleur.

Fewer are aware of his still legendary 'Big' corkscrew, introduced in 1966. Its patented self-centering telescopic bell-shaped cover always places the screw in the central part of the cork. This reliably prevents the glass from chipping and makes it easy to pull out even the most stubborn cork without shaking the bottle, which, as you know, ruins aged wines.

The worm screw of hardened stainless steel has been developed so that it never pierces out the cork's lower surface, thus preventing cork fragments falling into the wine. Its wide and extremely sharp profile provides maximum grip on the cork. The two large levers enable the corks to be pulled out of bottles of the finest vintages without disturbing the sediments.

Interestingly, the bolts that fasten the handles are the same as used by Campy to fasten chain rings on their classic road bike Nuovo Record crankset. Use of the finest raw materials and beautiful Campagnolo precision make this the perfect indulgence for the bike or wine enthusiast.

Much of the body is aluminum and will discolor or pit if not cleaned after use. I bought mine in 1979, and with care it will last a lifetime.
