5 out of 5 stars it works   June 20, 2008

I used it to verify temperatures in a new oven. It proved to be quite accurate and gave repeated accurate and consistent readings.

5 out of 5 stars Good thermometer!   May 29, 2008
Like an idiot, I cleaned my oven and forgot to take out the thermometer I always keep in it - thus I needed a new one. I went to or called a couple of specialty stores who told me they didn't have one and my local supermarket also didn't have any so I checked Amazon and chose this one from several listed.

It sits on a shelf and seems to be very accurate.

4 out of 5 stars This Oven Thermometer Works!   November 12, 2007

I bought this gadget because my breads were getting burnt in my new electric oven. I discovered by using this thermometer that when I set my oven thermostat at 350 F, it actually settles at 375 F!

I am able now able to readjust my thermostat setting and verify my desired temperature from its readings. It is a sturdy item but not made in France as I expected. It is made in China. It looks like our country is dead without help from China!!

5 out of 5 stars I wish I'd had one years ago!   July 14, 2007

This is a cool little gadget that I should have had long ago. Now wonder I always burned things! Hang one off a rack in your oven and you will know exactly what your oven temp is! Tells you if your oven runs a little hot or cool and you can adjust your cooking accordingly. It's made of stainless steel and the dial is easy to read through the oven window. There are several little hooks to allow you to hang in different places. This is definitely something that should be in every oven!

1 out of 5 stars Made in China? Run.   July 5, 2007

Given that I was in the market for a new oven thermometer, and given that the reviews of most of the available thermometers were less than encouraging, I decided to buy both a Polder and an MIU and test them against a Taylor mercury thermometer.

Right off the bat, the MIU was off by 25 degrees. The Polder was dead on. However, within one day, the Polder was off by 40 degrees. But since they were so cheap, they're not worth returning.

Moral? Save your money and buy a mercury oven thermometer on eBay. They generally go for less than ten dollars and there's no guesswork involved as to their accuracy.
