Editorial Reviews:

Amazon.com
Amazon Best of the Month, May 2008: Stephenie Meyer, creator of the phenomenal teen-vamp Twilight series, takes paranormal romance into alien territory in her first adult novel. Those wary of sci-fi or teen angst will be pleasantly surprised by this mature and imaginative thriller, propelled by equal parts action and emotion. A species of altruistic parasites has peacefully assumed control of the minds and bodies of most humans, but feisty Melanie Stryder won't surrender her mind to the alien soul called Wanderer. Overwhelmed by Melanie's memories of fellow resistor Jared, Wanderer yields to her body's longing and sets off into the desert to find him. Likely the first love triangle involving just two bodies, it's unabashedly romantic, and the characters (human and alien) genuinely endearing. Readers intrigued by this familiar-yet-alien world will gleefully note that the story's end leaves the door open for a sequel--or another series. --Mari Malcolm

Product Description
The author of the Twilight series of # 1 bestsellers delivers her brilliant first novel for adults: a gripping story of love and betrayal in a future with the fate of humanity at stake.

Melanie Stryder refuses to fade away. The earth has been invaded by a species that take over the minds of their human hosts while leaving their bodies intact, and most of humanity has succumbed.

Wanderer, the invading "soul" who has been given Melanie's body, knew about the challenges of living inside a human: the overwhelming emotions, the too vivid memories. But there was one difficulty Wanderer didn't expect: the former tenant of her body refusing to relinquish possession of her mind.

Melanie fills Wanderer's thoughts with visions of the man Melanie loves-Jared, a human who still lives in hiding. Unable to separate herself from her body's desires, Wanderer yearns for a man she's never met. As outside forces make Wanderer and Melanie unwilling allies, they set off to search for the man they both love.

Featuring what may be the first love triangle involving only two bodies, THE HOST is a riveting and unforgettable novel that will bring a vast new readership to one of the most compelling writers of our time.

4 out of 5 stars Another Amazing Book!   May 13, 2008
I am a huge Stephenie Meyer fan, and this book did not disapoint. While the first several chapters were slow going, when it picked up pace boy did it ever!

This novel is not the kind of sci-fi book you would expect,it is more about the characters themselves v. the ins and outs of deep space. I found this book emotional and intense, it makes you question what is "human",what defines a being as good or bad.

I am really looking forward to seeing what Ms. Meyer comes up with next.

5 out of 5 stars Couldn't Put it down!   May 13, 2008
From the time this book arrived at my door I managed 3 hours sleep and the rest of the time spent reading. Stephenie Meyer has again graced us with a wonderful story. I'm anxiously waiting for #4 in her Twilight series! I hate for her books to end!

5 out of 5 stars Better than Twilight series...even if it won't get the hype   May 13, 2008
I was delighted to find wonderful character development, a fresh storyline and fleshed out characters. I have seen a few reviews that refer to the pacing of the book, and I honestly thought that it was as close to perfect as they come. The book sucked me in made me fall in love with the characters and think about society as a whole. This would be a FANTASTIC book club book because it could be discussed on so many levels. I devoured it in about 12 hours. How long did it take you?

5 out of 5 stars Stephenie Meyer does it again   May 13, 2008
Stephenie Meyer once said that she thinks of herself as a storyteller rather than a writer. For any fan of the Twilight series, it's obvious that Stephenie is a great storyteller with the ability to draw the reader into the story. The Host is another great example of her talent. I found myself staying up reading until all hours of the night just to find out what was going to happen next. It's very easy to become emotionally invested in Stephenie's books, and The Host is no different.

5 out of 5 stars Loved it!   May 12, 2008
I abolutely LOVED it! Just finished it last night. It took me about 50 pages to get into it...but once I did, I was HOOKED! It's the perfect combination of character development along with a romantic twist. I usually can't stand Science Fiction--but I just loved The Host. I couldn't do anything else--other than turn those pages. I highly recommend the Host--you'll have more fun with this book than you have had in a long time! I think Stephenie Meyer is a fabulous author! The Host does not disappoint! Hope there is a sequel!
