Life is idyllic in the fairytale world where conflict is minimal and breaking into song solves every problem, but what happens when a princess from the fairy world gets magically transported into the real world? Enchanted begins in the animated fairytale world of Andalasia where Princess Giselle (Amy Adams) is destined to marry Prince Edward (James Marsden) and live happily ever after. Problem is, Edward's step-mother Queen Narissa (Susan Sarandon) doesn't want to give up the throne and will do anything to get Giselle out of Edward's life. Queen Narissa's solution is to push Giselle into a well that magically lands Giselle smack in the middle of the real world--the center of Time Square in New York City, to be exact. This launches the live-action portion of the film where Giselle immediately realizes that things are frighteningly different in this new world and that she is ill-prepared for the callous ways of the people who inhabit it. Giselle finds herself alone on a stormy night in the wrong end of town, but a chance encounter with Robert (Patrick Dempsey) and his princess-loving daughter Morgan (Rachel Covey) leads to a warm, safe place to spend the night and the beginnings of a complicated, yet compelling relationship. As Giselle begins to question the fairy-tale truths she's always inherently believed, Robert's outlook on life and love also begins to change significantly. Parallels to the classic Disney fairytales, Cinderella, Snow White and Sleeping Beauty abound in the form of a King's and Queen's ball, small animals and rodents who clean house when called, the threat of poisoned apples, characters impulsively breaking into song, and the power of the kiss of true love and the absurd juxtaposition of fairytale idealism and stark reality is hilariously funny. Features music by Alan Menken and Stephen Schwartz of Pocahontas and The Hunchback of Notre Dame fame, Wicked's Broadway Elpheba Idina Menzel as Nancy, and even a brief appearance by former Princess voice talent Judy Kuhn (Pocahontas). Enchanted is one of the best, most entertaining Disney films of the year. (Ages 6 and older with parental guidance due to some scary images and mild innuendo) --Tami Horiuchi

1 out of 5 stars The original is better   October 13, 2008
This is a parody of "The Sleeping Beauty", a classic that is now coming to Blu-ray. But unlike that wonderful, carefully planed classic which took the Disney studio almost a decade to develop, Enchanted lacks sincerity.

It pretends to put the fairy tale world upside down and teach a couple of things about "true love", but instead ends up reaffirming the fairy tale concepts, but without the class and elegance of the original. In fact, bad taste is all over the place: Almost-nudity, a joke involving faeces, talk about boys wanting "only one thing", easy jokes copied from Shrek and "Splash", a nauseating musical number in Central Park...

If you're still itching to know what Enchanted is all about, rent it before buying. And buy The Sleeping Beauty Blu-ray.

5 out of 5 stars Just a cute movie all around. Modern day parable   October 10, 2008
If you enjoy modern day fairy tales, and also enjoy movies filmed in New York City, then you will most likely love this movie. The star is a little dopey, but dopey in a cute way. She charms the proverbial single parent, father of a small child, and the rest is mystery. Good special effects. The counter person, at the store where I bought this said, "this is my daughters FAVORITE movie...she can watch it over and over again.." It was a good, unsolicited testimonial, and it turns out the kids is pretty much right. This movie has something that most people will find appealing. The only downside about the movie is Susan Sarandon's part of the "Evil witch". It seems forced, and almost like she's pandering to the kids. Other than that it's all "happily ever after". Some of the specific NYC scenes that people will enjoy are the "time portal" directly in Times Square, which any NY'er or tourist can connect with. Others include a funny scene where a homeless person steals her tiara, and bolts down the street. Funny stuff.

1 out of 5 stars No address   October 8, 2008

I waited and waited and watched the postal trace. Finally it could not be delivered because the seller did not put my address on the package. The Post office told me that it was going to be returned to the sender.

1 out of 5 stars Downhill Disney   October 4, 2008

Disney films have pretty much gone downhill since the "Hunchback of Notre Dame" animated movie. In that film, the heroine kicks men in the groin to make her escape and the comedy relief is provided by a stone gargoyle that relieves itself by passing gas.

In this film, we have a live dog urinating on the leg of a prince and a chipmunk that defecates when frightened.

Is this what passes for family entertainment these days?

5 out of 5 stars Family Pleaser   September 24, 2008
This film is excellent all the family enjoy watching it. The tunes are very catchy our boys aged 2 and 5 sing them all the time. A must buy for any one who enjoys Disney films
