"Lazy Susan with Lip" might sound like a bad TV sitcom, but it's actually a serving tray that saves time and space. Thirteen inches in diameter, this tray rotates smoothly on its base to give quick and easy access to its contents. With a lazy Susan sitting in the middle of a table, there's no tangle of arms as several people reach for the mustard at once. It's also handy for storing many objects in a small space--if your spices are in a cupboard, put them on a lazy Susan and you won't have to unpack every jar to reach the paprika hiding at the back. A slightly raised rim helps keep items in place and prevents spillovers. Made of handsomely finished light-colored wood, this tray should be cleaned with a damp cloth.

"happy review warrior" obviously doesn't have children, or he/she would appreciate the "lip".

This lazy susan is very well made, sturdy, and looks great on my table. My only complaint with this item, is that the lip isn't high enough. [sorry happy review warrior!]

This is a wonderfully crafted, stylish - with simple lines - lazy susan. I use it mainly for condiments and spices besides the stove, but also on the table for the little bowls with sauces and supplements that go with fondue, Mexican or East Indian dishes. In that case I appreciate the lip which holds things back from sliding all over the table, especially when eating with kids (or spirited guests).

In general: a lazy susan is not meant to get in contact with food directly (improvise with the glass tray from your microwave, it's easy to clean). And in a fridge or kitchen cabinet corner your susan needs a lip, otherwise small things disappear forever...

Lip? We don't need no stinkin' "lip"! June 24, 2003
The only problem with this finely crafted lazy-susan is that it has a lip. If you don't know much about lazy-susans, or haven't thought about it, and are considering getting one, recognize that a lip is a bad thing. Basically, it limits what can be placed on it.

Do you want to balance a 20-inch serving tray on it? The lip will make the tray dip. This is true of anything larger than the given diameter. It will especially annoy you if you wish to use it to ice a cake, as the center may dip, and crack the cake.

Lazy susans are designed primarily as a convenient rotating table. Trying to incorporate the serving tray into it is unnecessary foolery. It will also make it more difficult to clean up, as using a separate tray, as is normally done, means you only have to wash the tray, and not the heavy wooden lazy susan.

Trust me, lazy susans don't come with lips for good reason. Don't fall prey to ignorance. Go get the real thing.
