4 out of 5 stars Works well, but consumes batteries.   February 4, 2007

The temperature, humidity and atomic clock functions all work well on mine. I do recommend buying NMH rechargeable batteries for the base unit as it goes through regular alkalines quite quickly. Also, if you live in a climate with cold winters, the outdoor sending unit will sometimes not send a signal when it gets very cold. Lithium batteries seem to the best for the sending unit in cold weather.

4 out of 5 stars Worth the Price   January 9, 2007

It has worked great for me. It was easy to program and it picked up the time signal in less than 10 seconds. The base station lost the signal from the remote once soon after putting it into operation, but it reprogrammed easily and has been trouble-free since (now over two months). The forecasts seem to be pretty acurate for the advertised 12-24 hours in advance. Overall, this unit has met my expectations and is a good value.

4 out of 5 stars A good weather gauge for the price.   November 6, 2006

I, like a few of the reviewers, feel that the Oregon Scientific Long Range Weather Forecaster does a superb job of collecting and transmitting outdoor humidity & temperature values (its main job). Unfortunately, one feature of the weather forecaster (the Graphical Weather Trend Icon) continues to confuse me.

What is it trying to say? There are days when it is clear and sunny outside. Yet, when I look at the icon, it shows "rain." Huh? So, is this the 12, 24 or 36-hour weather forecast? I'm stumped. I perused the enclosed owner's manual and am unable to find a definition of what a "sunny," "cloudy" or "rainy" day really means...

Anyhow, if you can overlook this feature, I would highly recommend the Oregon Scientific Long Range Weather Forecaster.

4 out of 5 stars Does what it should- but needs new batteries...   October 31, 2006

I must have had 8 windows open for electronic weather stations before picking this one.

I got this unit along with an extra remote sensor. When I took the plastic tab out to allow the batteries to make contact and the units came on...

...they all had a different temp even after 10 minutes of being right next to each other. We're talking as much as 4 degrees difference and 7% difference on the humidity.

Got all new name brand batteries and put them in.

Now the temps are within a degree of each other. Why this would make a difference, I'm not sure- but it did.

In fact, the base unit nearly synchs up exactly with a cheaper unit I got 2yrs ago.

It looks pretty good and I'm getting this as a Bday present for a friend.

Give this unit a shot, but be sure to get 6 new AA batteries!

5 out of 5 stars Follow the simple instructions and it's perfect!   September 6, 2006

I've read the comments claiming that the sensors don't communicate with the base unit. Well, if you don't follow the simple instructions (place the base unit near the sensor and press 'reset' on the sensor), it won't. If you do follow the instructions, however, it works like a charm. I live in Bermuda, VERY far from the atomic clock, and in a concrete house. The clock syncs nicely and picks up the readings from throughout the house and outside perfectly, even through several concrete walls, double-pane windows, and several meters of space in between. The temp and humidity readings are reasonably close from one sensor to another in the same place, so the calibration is acceptable for all but scientific purposes, the sensors hold up well in the heat and torrential rains of Bermuda, and the batteries last fairly long. It's even got a low battery warning. The clock sync does take some time, but be patient, it'll work.

As for customer service, I called OS a long time after purchasing this, looking for new brackets for the sensors (mine had gone missing), and without hesitation, for FREE - not even shipping - they were sent right along. Now THAT is excellent support!

In all, I highly recommend this unit.
