5 out of 5 stars It's Like Having Your Own IMAX Theater   October 25, 2008
2 out of 2 found this review helpful

I spent a lot of time researching this purchase online, as well as staring at different sets in the box stores. In the end, my only deliberation was between this set and the A630. The difference being that the A630 has a more matte finish to the screen (resulting in a slight drop of contrast 50,000:1 vs. 40,000:1) and has one less HMDI input (4 vs. 3).

I had read some people's complaint that the A650's screen was distracting with the more glossy finish. I can say that I have this set in a room with windows on three walls, allowing in plenty of natural light regardless of the time of day, and there is zero problem with reflections off of this screen. Go for this set and enjoy the ever so slightly better picture (than that of the A630).

The picture is mind-blowing. It is like having an IMAX theater in your family room. Whether it's HD cable, or Blu-ray movies, the picture is incredible: deep blacks, rich colors, great detail even with fast moving pictures. Another nice feature is the ability to plug a thumb drive into the USB port and the A650 will run a slide show of any jpeg's it finds on the drive.

5 out of 5 stars What can I say   October 25, 2008
Shipment came fast, very well packed. I am not going to get into technical stuff cause you've probably already read about this. After I did inmense search on this TV, I finally bought it, and I'm so glad I did.
I have owned home theaters sistems since I was a teenager. I have bought all kinds of displays, and I can assure you this is the best on the market today. New models like the 750 and 850 have almost the same features as this one but a bit more expensive.
Believe me, if you are looking for the best TV at an affordable price, buy this one, you won't regret it. By the way, this red touch of color thing looks extremely beautiful.

5 out of 5 stars Great TV. Amazon service priceless!   October 24, 2008
I took the plunge after reading the reviews and visiting a Circuit City store to see the actual picture quality. Before the visit, I was going to buy the Samsung 61" DLP because I wanted the biggest TV I could afford. But after comparing all the TVs, the picture on the Samsung 52" LCD was far and away the best. It was simply stunning. I went home and ordered it on Amazon. The total price, including no shipping or tax, was about $400 less than Circuit City..

I must admit that I was a little leery about ordering such a item online, but it turned out to be a wise decision. When I received the TV, everything was fine except that there were some smudges and scratches on the bezel. I called Amazon Customer Care and they simply ordered a replacement. It came 5 days later, and it was perfect. Make sure you keep your packing box for at least a week in case you need to return it. Bravo Amazon!

The bezel was important because it's simply gorgeous. The infused red color was a brilliant idea (there must be a woman at Samsung with come clout). And the picture on this TV is jaw-dropping. Everyone who has seen it has been blown away. You need to sit at eye-level to really appreciate it. ESPN never looked so good!

I bought 2 HDMI cables from Mediabridge (on Amazon)to hook up my cable box and my future Blu-ray player. I also hooked up my Panasonic DVD recorder. Even my older DVDs look good. You can adjust the picture size to full screen by going into the picture mode, scroll down to picture options, size, and select wide fit. Wow! It's like I'm standing next to my hero Sherlock Holmes (Basil Rathbone of course)! I'm a movie freak, and there's nothing better than being totally immersed in your favorite films. (Make sure you go back to 16:9 size when you go to HD channels).

If you have a lot of DVDs, you might want to check out discgear holders to keep them organized and each DVD pops up when you select it. They are so cool (QVC had the best price on them).

I bought the 650 model because I wanted the swivel stand. I can now watch TV while I'm at my computer desk in another part of the room. I have an entertainment center with 2 huge black display towers and 2 upper connecting shelves. There is also a stand at the bottom with shelves and glass doors. I was able to move the towers apart so that the TV would fit on the stand and below the upper shelves. I put the cable box and recorder below in the stand and everything worked out perfectly.

If you are considering a new HDTV and don't want to break the bank, you must see this one. You won't be sorry if you took the plunge like I did.

5 out of 5 stars Incredible Value and Product!!!!!!!   October 24, 2008
After comparing televisions at all of the local chains and warehouse clubs, my wife and I both agreed that Samsung had the brightest and best picture of all of the LCDs. The model that we ended up purchasing, the Samsung LN52A650, was a step up from what was being offered at the afore-mentioned stores, and we were able to purchase it at Amazon.com for several hundred less than the lesser 52" models, and on top of that, we paid no shipping or sales tax. I figure that my total savings, compared to purchasing locally, was about $500!
The picture is incredible, especially with sports programming, and the sound is pretty good as well. There were no 'dead' pixels on the screen, and we have zero complaints. I would certainly recommend this television, and purchasing avenue, to anyone.

4 out of 5 stars If only the sound...   October 23, 2008
Bought ln52a650 after purchasing the 120 hz 47" vizio. The picture on the vizio just didn't WOW me...this is my first time with an HD signal/TV...I wanted to be WOW'd. I hooked the Samsung up...bam! George Clooney is standing in my living room (O'Brother movie). But, the sound, oh the Vizio was WAY better than the Samsung. I still haven't bought an external sound system...I'm just not that into it. You can make the sound enjoyable...either use the Movie sound mode or make a custom one, where it roughly forms a diagonal line, least on Treble, most on bass. Most people claim the sound is "tinny"...this helps. Very easy to set up...used HDMI cables from Costco. The remote is fine...I only use it to re-size the picture and change from mode-to-mode (sports, cinema, game, off). Touch of color is barely noticeable, really takes direct light. No glare...only on dark scenes, shutting the blinds corrects. LOVE IT.

One movie that looks great is The Astronaut Farmer. Many picturesque scenes.

I will eventually hook up a Blu Ray player...will probably get the Sony 350.
