1 out of 5 stars Not user friendly   October 21, 2002

Black and Decker should be ashamed of themselves for this coffee maker. It's a great idea, in fact it's the only one cup maker I've ever been able to find. The problem is that it is so poorly designed. If you're not really careful when you put the filter mechanism into the slot, the spout where the water comes out will not be seated properly and you will end up with coffee all over your kitchen counter.

The inluded travel mug lasted about 4 months of normal daily use and then the bottom cracked and fell out. I'm being totally serious. What a mess.

2 out of 5 stars Nice idea but poor product   September 10, 2002

This item has been the perfect item for my wife since she really wants one cup of coffee first thing in the morning. Problem is that it is messy and it's not built very well. My wife has bought probably 4 of these things and she wears them out in 6-9 months. As soon as we find a better one cup maker we're switching.

It's really disappointing to have such a perfect item for your lifestyle but have it turn out to be so poorly manufactured. Black & Decker has nothing to be proud of here.

5 out of 5 stars Fast Single Coffee Maker   August 14, 2002

This is a great fast single coffee maker. Perfect for that one person 'large' cup. The travel cup actually does fit into my vans cup holder. The coffee is hot right after it is brewed, but it does not have a heating system, so will start to cool immediately, which is not a problem. Just start the coffee maker a few minutes before you need it and go.

In this case, more is not better. Do not fill the coffee maker to the top with water, leave a little space, about 1/2 inch. This will solve the overflow problem. It is better to sacrifice that couple ounces of potential coffee than to clean up the overflow mess.

I really like the permanent filter. After using the paper filters for so long, and always running out of them, the permanent filter is great to work with and cleaning is a faucet away.

Overall, a great unit for that single coffee user.

5 out of 5 stars Great Coffee With No Fuss   July 18, 2002

I read the reviews before ordering this personal coffee maker, and since some people had 'overflow problems' and some talked about coffee not being quite hot enough, I almost didn't get it.

Glad I went ahead. First, I put a small tray under the coffee maker in case of an overflow...I also always use a No. 1 size Mellita Filter in the basket, which makes it easier to clean and may help with the overflow problem, since I have never had that happen.

I use Folger's Classic Roast and use one and a half scoops with a regular size coffee scooper..I fill the cup within about 1/2" of the top and pour it in...put the cup in place, click the switch and ......perfectly hot, full bodied coffee every time with no problems at all so far...have used it about 20 times.

It makes a great large cup of coffee and the mug has a very comfortable feel to it. This coffee maker comes in handy when you don't want to mess with a full pot and it is very fast. I couldn't be more pleased - well worth the price!
