5 out of 5 stars Makes a cook out of a novice!   January 25, 2007

I received this cookbook as a gift with my mixer and everyone who has tasted my baking with these recepies have raved as if I've taken cooking classes. It is definitely a 'bible' to anyone who doesn't know what to do with your heavy duty machine. Completely invaluable!

3 out of 5 stars ok but not really necessary HOWEVER it tells you the speeds to use on your kitchenaid   January 12, 2007

I bought this because I am insecure about using my first stand mixer. The recipes are not original and appear in some other cookbooks I have recently purchased. I recommend flipping through a copy before purchasing because the paperback price is not cheap.

I made Nigella Lawson's macaroons today and used the mixer bible's floating island recipe to learn to start on Speed 4 to froth the egg whites, add cream of tartar, then up the ante to Speed 8 to get stiff white peaks. Nigella's recipe said to beat until frothy, add c of tt, then keep beating to get stiff whites.

I also liked the instructions for the cream cheese butter pound cake loaf.

I have enjoyed this book, but have not had time to use as much as I would like.

5 out of 5 stars Great Complimentary Cookbook   January 9, 2007

I recently purchased a Kitchen Aid Professional Series Mixer for my wife. My wife was happy wife getting just the mixer, but the Mixer Bible completes the purchase. All the recipes are geared toward having a Kitchen Aid mixer by listing what attachments are needed and what speed the mixer needs to be set. My wife tends to search for recipes online, but a few we have tried so far in this book have been far better, including those that are from Martha Stewart.

With the few recipes my wife and I have had a chance to try, the book has been worth every penny. My wife is very anxious to try out the recipes that include making pasta from scratch. I did notice a previous review explaining the book wasn't clear on how to process the pasta and burned out her mixer's motor. Knowing that before we try will make us try process the pasta in smaller amounts so as not to clog the mixer.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent Reference/Recipe Book!   December 13, 2006

I received my electric stand mixer as a wedding present 6 years ago and used it solely for cakes and cookies. What else would it be for?

I purchased The Mixer Bible because I was contemplating donating my beautiful mixer to charity unless I could find more ways to use it. Thank goodness I found this book! It includes instructions for using the various paddles and accessories to make the stand mixer a useful everyday tool. There are suggestions for using the mixer for such things as making meat loaf and other main dishes, as well as the usual cakes, breads and cookies. The sausage recipes have even made me interested in making my own--it looks so easy (I just got the book yesterday so I haven't had the chance to try it yet)! Plus, it includes recipes for making your own ice cream...with a mixer!!!! I never would have thought it possible!

Recipes, tips, suggestions and things to avoid are all included in this easy-to-read book. If you own a mixer and use it more as a decorative piece, you owe it to yourself to get this book before you decide it's taking up too much space. I highly recommend this book!
